God I hope Neal doesnt pull a Mason in the 2nd half of the season. He's so coldblooded.

Neal shoots with his core set and his shot is fundamentally sound.

RMJ's release was fundamentally sound but he never shot with his core set, so the shot overall was rather unorthodox.

Neal's style of shooting is amenable to a greater degree of consistency.

Spurs are obviously ridiculously deadly when they hit the three ball. They can be so streaky during the course of a game, but for the most part, they seem to be much improved over last years team with regards to shooting.

Now we need to get Tim going and just move the ball from side to side through him (as long as he stops making terrible decisions).

Nathan89
11-08-2010, 09:15 PM
Neal could be a PG????? or he is just an undersized SG? If this guy could run the point, im pretty sure Hill will be benched

Hill is a better backup pg than Neal but Hill's backup sg minutes are about to be consumed by Neal. Perhaps Hill realizes this and that pressure is making him play terrible.

Manu's 3s are odd - either bottom of the net or barely making the rim. He's always been like that. I think it's the strange way he balances the ball on his left hand.

I guess its a good sign when the Spurs are 5-1.. and they really havent gotten anything from Splitter, Blair an Hill who are three potential key pieces going forward. Splitter has played very well in his limited time - but hasnt gotten enough time to really effect the outcome of games.

That said, W-L record can be fools gold when your winning games in overtime and coming from behind at the end of games.

Spurs are getting nice production from their bench overall. If the Spurs get Hill/Blair/Tiago going, watch out.

Spurs need to get Tim more involved as well. Obviously, Manu and TP should be the focal points of the offense, but they could do a much better job of finding Tim and putting him in good positions.

Bobcats are a below average team..they're 1-6, losing to some bad teams and barely beating other teams of their caliber..their defense isn't the same as it was last year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Larry Brown leave the team by the end of the season..

Team showed resilience out there down the stretch. They let there guard down once they went up double digits but did a good job to bounce back. Defense played well in the 2nd half but it definitely has a ways to go.

This team is still miles ahead of where we were last season and seeing us continually win these close games down the stretch makes me very happy, its something we could not do last year.

I'll take the wins regardless of how the spurs win that a win is a win. Last year the spurs would have lost this type of game so its already a plus. I rather the spurs have an inflated record towards the end of the year versus having a poor record and then having to put together an emergency push to make it to the playoffs. These are the wins the spurs will be thankful to have when April comes.

Yup. You can be happy about winning all you want, but unless you do it against good teams, it doesn't really matter.

Beating up and building up a nice record by beating up on the bad teams is good and all, but it does not bode well come playoff time if your record against the top teams is consistently bad.

I am happy with the Spurs. But there are some very alarming advanced (and basic) numbers that certainly have my attention.

I dont really think you can judge the Spurs against top teams yet until they have their rotations set....which could be in April.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a "win-loss" thing..I don't believe in moral victories, but playing the games vs. good teams can at least show us a few things about the Spurs..

These games vs. shitty teams should be teaching the Spurs how to play together/setting the rotation/defensive chemistry..hopefully when they play the good teams, they'll have learned from these games vs. poor teams..

Another reason it's tough to judge the Spurs is that some of the players on the team are clearly ordered not to play too hard..Manu and Duncan seem to have orders to not go as hard in the paint, at least IMO..we'll see though, I'm looking forward to the OKC game..

For EVERY championship team in the last decade, outside of the 2006 Heat, the team that won the title had a good record vs. other playoff teams..

3 things i like about this game:

1- The Bench. Great game for Neil!! Clutch 3s.. Solid game by Anderson, Splitter and as usual, Dice.
2- Manu Ginobili.
3- Richard Jefferson. He had his worst night shooting the ball, but he husttle on D, he grabbed rebounds and he hits a great jumper in clutch time. That's what your role is all about, help in the area the team needs, and don't get frustrated if a couple of jumpers don't fall..

Pretty much, this. With Manu (seemingly) following orders to take more shots from the outside and stay out of the paint, and both Duncan and Manu playing limited minutes it makes it hard to really compare the Spurs to the League's top teams.

The past few seasons have shown that Pop is fine with beating the poor/average teams and taking losses to the top teams if it allows him to rest Manu and Tim.

Not to be contrary, but the good news is that they have the personnel to correct the problems. Last year? We all knew Mason wasn't going to suddenly get right. We all knew Finley wasn't going to step up and play good defense. We knew Bogans wasn't under-achieving, he just wasn't that good. And we all knew how the Mahinmi story was going to end.

This year, I really think we're looking at guys with upside.
