As was pointed out to you in another recent thread- your ambivalence or dislike of a certain show or form of media, is a sure sign that that something is worthwhile and valuable and not meant for middle American bumpkins.

Enjoy your Leno and Home Improvement reruns.

I hope he found a way to bring the Masturbating Bear and Triumph with him. NBC can keep Andy though.

Should be good; I saw the clip from the George Lopez show last week and Conan's hair is huge!

This should be way better than the watered-down show they had to do on NBC to appeal to the Leno audience. Hopefully it returns to what it was in the late 90s in late night when it completely off the fucking wall.

FWIW I read something the other day that explained NBC was not going to be uptight about Conan using his recurring material on the new show. So we should see masturbating bear, et al. again. Legally, they (NBC) could be (uptight), but are going to choose not to be in the interest of Moving On.

And Andy will be back. It is not clear at this point whether he will be behind the podium ala the Tonight Show, or given a spot on the couch.

I'm psyched as well. Love Conan. Those last two weeks at the Tonight Show - when he gave in and said fuck it all - were some of the best comedy I've ever seen. Absolutely classic (Buggati Veyron Mouse anyone?).

I hope (and expect) the TBS show to go edgier and more abstract to pull away from The Daily Show/Colbert Report audiences.

Another thing people tend to forget is that Conan is a smart guy (graduated from Harvard with Honors) and that sometimes gets lost in his "silly" comedy which for the most part usually has some type of sub context message.

dont see the conan hype. still think stewart will keep the ratings. conan should have kept doing the simpsons episodes. dont know why there is so much sympathy for a guy who was paid 40 million to get a better job, and his popularity grew only because of his incident not his talent.

Sympathy grew because of the feeling that he got screwed over by someone with less talent and grace. Reading The War For Late Night now - interesting read thus far.

Conan's comedic style is something you get or don't get, like or don't like. There is a ton of silliness and ridiculousness to it - it's not often the dry, sharp wit of someone like Stewart.

I really enjoy it. I roll my eyes at sketches like the masturbating bear, but still laugh because of the wry way Conan shakes his head over the whole thing. It's almost as if there is a level of meta-comedy involved, where you sit back and just laugh at the absurdity of it.

Not a bad start. Not too much bitterness, some funny bits at the expense of the whole thing (The Second Annual First Show!) (Rickey Gervais' multiple good luck videos) (the entire opening montage - Last Season on Conan). I'm thrilled he's back. Nothing particularly wild or out there, just Conan doing what he does.

I liked it. It had a very fresh, new feel to it that I hope lasts for a while. I'd have preferred anyone over Seth Rogen as the first guest; but I enjoyed the number with Jack White.

I want fat Seth Rogen back. The skinny Seth Rogen is not funny. And his laugh is just plain old annoying. The rest of the show was really good though.

I hear Conan recently interviewed a Mongolian General. They got to talking about philosophy or something.

Mongol General: Conan! What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.
Mongol General: That is good! That is good.

Conan FTW.

Comedy Central is the only one at the moment not doing this :tu

Too bad because I really like Conan, and since he's not with NBC anymore I can watch him on CNBC either.

Yeah, I know. But it just feels stupid. I mean it's like the NBA took 5 years to realize there was good money to be made by making games legally accessible outside the US. The NFL realized that a long time ago (and for a sport that is not nearly as popular). All the time they knew we were watching games illegally and only bitched about it.

I know I can use illegal downloads, but frankly I don't feel like it - if they're too stupid to make a profit out of me then I guess I'll go somewhere else.

Oh and the "we only own copyrights for the US" excuse is getting very old. This was what all the publishers and online bookstores were saying about e-books until amazon started selling them in Europe this February - they are now making huge profits (electronic best sellers are outselling the printed versions) and everybody is trying to jump on the bandwagon. So what changed? Which monumental international copyright treaty was signed last year to make this possible?

There wasn't one.

Turner is among the worst of all networks when it comes to making their programming watchable on media besides TV. I'm actually surprised they're making episodes available even in the U.S.

Not a huge Conan fan but I did watch some of the episode.

Here's the song Conan and Jack White performed. Pretty cool. Conan didn't just sit back and play rhythm. He sang and even did a mini solo with Jack towards the end. More than slightly impressed Conan could hang as well as he did. His head jerks are annoyingly funny though.

watched the show. hopefully it gets better and what i mean by that is dont make the whole hour about "well nbc screwed me so allow me to make the whole existence of this show about it, even though i have a lower budget to work on and get paid less. poor me! even though i got 40 million to get a better job."
actually when you think about it the tonight show was unwatchable, and boring until he started whining about nbc so i guess if something works stick to it.

That NY Times review and comments said much of the same thing, but I think one show is too much to harp about. If he continues it on, then yes, I agree with that feeling.

But I certainly expected him to address it in the first night, and thought they did so in the traditional Conan way - funny, self-deprecating, silly. After everything that happened, how could he not address it? It's the reason he is as famous as he is and has a show on TBS at all.

Hell, Lettermen still brings up his past w/ NBC, and that was last century.
