It’s only been five games but, in a sense, these are the games that we learn the most about what to expect from the team. The most pleasant surprise has certainly been Richard Jefferson. After a productive preseason, Dejuan Blair has struggled early and the jury is still out on Tiago Splitter and Tony Parker. Obviously, we shouldn’t make too much of this limited sample, but which details warrant more or less attention?

There were a lot of posters who scoffed at the idea that the Spurs would be lucky if Blair turned out to be as good as Stuckey or Millsap. Instead they were busy trumpeting the second coming of Charles Barkley. Now we're stuckey with Charles Nelson Reilly.

Pop has given up on playing D because the league at present simply will not allow for any physicality on the perimeter. Perimeter D can only be played now by being super quick and jumping the passing lanes. If you burp too close to somebody a foul will get called. More and more the NBA looks like the old ABA than it does the NBA. The only thing that is missing is a red, white, and blue ball.
