The Obama administration has decided to de-emphasize plans to begin withdrawing US forces from Afghanistan starting July 2011, administration and military officials said Tuesday.

The new policy is to be unveiled at a NATO conference in Lisbon next week, where the United States and other NATO countries are set to discuss their commitment to Afghanistan. The United States hopes to introduce a plan to begin the withdrawal of military forces from Afghanistan by 2014, senior officials told McClatchy (http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/11/09/103468/obama-administration-moving-away.html).http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/white-house-push-afghan-deadline-2014/

Completely unsurprising. It will be a literal Hand-of-God miracle withdrawing by 2014.

Hopefully the code pink ladies come out of war retirement and start protesting again. They need to geek up because a repug will run the white house soon and we all know that's what they were really protesting.

McLiar said "100 years", and The American People wouldn't care.

dubya, dickhead, and their posse of other criminals who lied the US into Iraq must be prosecuted.

Too Guilty To Try

Letting these criminal assholes escape into wealthy, taxpayer-funded retirement and gold-plated health care certainly inspires all citizens to be honest and good faith in all their activities.

The MIC/VRWC and Repugs want these and other wars, Iran's Next, to run continuously for decades as they bleed wealth and the future of America into their bottomless pockets.

There's nothing new under the sun. Other empires and civilizations have warred themselves into collapse just as America is doing.

Barry and his buddies are tired of fighting over the remote to the predator drones so he figured he would add a few years to his war so they can play longer. That Barry is one sick bitch.

Why do you keep using such stupid rally cries?

We are still in Germany, England, Italy, etc. When will we pull out of there? It's been more than 60 years now. Almost 60 years in Korea.

The American Empire doesn't benefit America, doesn't benefit America's security.

The American Empire benefits US corporations, the MIC at the expense of America's citizenry.

I think the Administration is just playing hard-ball with the Taliban, who they will eventually deal with to protect the locals and promise to keep fundamental islamists out, and withdrawal well before 2014...

He'll still be POTUS in 2014, we ain't done yet! :downspin:

As for the US still occupying other countries, and posters trying to draw historitc parallels, you'd be wise to recall that those other countries aren't oil rich and populated by crazy people in turbans trying to cut each other's heads off. HUGE difference between the Middle East and Europe or even Asia.

Afghanistan has no oil, but they are a gateway to the Natural gas pipeline in Caspian Sea area, that said, Afghanistan is also a strategic national security location since we now know that most of the 911 hijackers if not their money, as well as other future terrorists are coming from or being trained in Pakistan...the Obama administration has been very successful at using drone attacks to kill radical Islamic leaders...
