Dime

4. TIM DUNCAN, Spurs — Still the G.O.A.T. at the four, but his dominance is being doled out in shorter spurts now, like when he dusted off a vintage 25-point, 17-board, 11-for-13 performance to beat the Suns. Averaging 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocks for the 6-1 Spurs.

Amare isn't any better than David Lee, who isn't even on this list.

I'd still put Duncan at #2. Maybe a tie between him and Gasol. Duncan is more consistent and still a better defender than Pau, who disappears in some games on the defensive end.

no way is Duncan better or even tied with Gasol at this point. and Duncan's defense is still great but he was exposed last year by the Suns who took him outside. he's not as good at defending the pick n' roll. gimme a break.

Suns have always ran the pick n' roll with success against the Spurs. Last year they had an extra advantage in have Frye a high percentage from three.

The top 5 are not really very arguable and they could easily be in any position at any given time.

After that the list is pretty terrible. Josh Smith shouldn't even be in this list. He's an exceptional athlete, but his 'game' is extraordinarily weak.

Also, both West and Aldridge are as good if not better than Bosh, Booz and Smith, IMO.

Gasol is playing better that Nowitzki

Pau is the best big in the game. Yes, better than Duncan.

I'll bet you 100 bucks that 20 years from now people will look back and say Duncan was the better player than Gasol.

Gasol is NOT the best big in the game right now. The Lakers team is the perfect fit for him, that's why many people tend to overrate him.

bosh should never be in any top 10, unless if it's the 10 most pussy scrubs ever.

TD 21

Truly, Duncan and Gasol are four and a half's. But the way the game is played today, they're centers. However, if you're going to list them as power forwards, then they should be 1-2. Nowitzki and Stoudemire have no business being placed ahead of either.

quentin_compson
11-12-2010, 08:32 PM
And by the way, no, Josh Smith is not really a PF.

TD 21
11-12-2010, 08:36 PM
The way the game is played today, Smith is absolutely a PF. He's not a traditional, or even natural one, though, but he's a four all the same. Just like Odom, Jamison, Lewis, Harrington, etc., who all entered the league primarily as SF's.

I don't know. I mean, I see why the Hawks are playing Smith as a PF (after all, Horford is only 6-10 as well), but he still doesn't seem to be playing very 4-like to me (haven't seen that many Hawks games recently, though).

TD 21
11-12-2010, 09:46 PM
It's real simple. He can't shoot well enough to play SF offensively and defensively, he can't move well enough laterally to stay in front of most SF's. Therefore, he's a PF by default. But really, he's an athlete and a talent without a natural position.

I'll bet you 100 bucks that 20 years from now people will look back and say Duncan was the better player than Gasol.

Of that there is no doubt. But at the moment, Pau Gasol is better than TD.

But really, he's an athlete and a talent without a natural position.

I think we can agree on that. And yeah, one good thing about moving Josh Smith to the 4 is that he probably won't be able to take a lot of stupid threes.

But at the moment, Pau Gasol is better than TD.

Only if Gasol is on the Lakers, probably. I think on pretty much every other team, his weaknesses would be more prominent. It just happens that he fits this Lakers team to a T. Don't get me wrong, he is a very good player, but I don't think the Spurs would be significantly better right now with him instead of Tim. To me, Pau was an underrated defender when he was with Memphis and he is an overrated defender right now with LA.

Terrible list. But arent they always?

Black_N_Silver
11-13-2010, 03:15 AM
As far as I am concerned, Nowitzki should not be ahead of Gasol. Pau is undoubtedly the best PF in the game. KG should be moved father back, as he is old and much less ineffective.

First of all, Dirk is easily the best scoring PF in the game right now, anyone who argues has no idea what they're talking about. His defense is average and has gotten way better the last few years. His man to man defense is pretty good however his help defense is questionable.

Still Dirk>>>>>>Bosh/Amare at defense and >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>any PF on offense. Not hard to see why he's at the top. He singlehandedly beat the Celtics the other night.

The same thing can be said about Gasol, look at Gasol's entire career. He's ALWAYS been a poor defender, why do you think LA got raped by the Celtics in '08? It's because Bynum was out, Gasol was exposed for his crappy defense and the Celtics took advantage of it.

Take away Bynum and Gasol can't stop anyone. TD/Bynum would be scary good on D, MUCH better than Gasol and Bynum. A combo of TD and Bynum protecting the paint would pretty much force every team in the NBA to become a jump shooting team.

Dirk is just a 7 foot shooting guard. Dynamite scorer? Absolutely. Can he take over in a game? Yup. But does he play like a Power Forward? Hell no. Top 5 only because of his scoring ability, but Dirk is weak down low. FAIL.

Aside from Amare I don't have major issues with this, Dirk/Gasol are playing at such a high level right now.

Duncan in his peak was >>>>> anyone of those players.
