Well at least she mentioned a Spurs player that has been a finals MVP and that has seen enough finals that she could have been correct.

Not really. Tim doesn't have the personality of a rock. He goofs around a lot and is a very playful person. It's just that he's also very reserved and doesn't like the limelight. But it ultimately comes down to what Duncan wants and marketing = a lot of exposure which Tim doesn't want.

Yet more evidence of that marketing failure: Someone claiming to be an NBA fan who hangs out on a message board for Duncan's small market team repeats the same stupid shit ESPN does. I guess we should wish Duncan had so much personality that his shoe company would have muppets portray him.

I think you're taking this way too personally imo...I already said I appreciate his game and think he's quite possibly the best PF in the game. Truth be told he's rather bland when it comes to marketing. That's no fault to him, he's reserved and handles his business the right way. I'm sure he's "playful" and good-humored when around the fellas, but fact of the matter is in most media interviews he's pretty monotonous. He'll get the praise long after he's retired (a la Bill Russell). He was a lot more marketable when he was paired with D-Rob...what was that insanely gay commercial they did together around '99? "The roses are out timmy, not the daises."..."more lemonade?"

You didn't find that commercial the slightest bit gay?

Kobe Bryant is interesting because he's the most polarizing NBA player of our generation...seriously, who comes close? Being accused of rape by the town whore also has made him a lightning rod for conversation.

Besides, it's all a moot point...I just find it funny that spurs fans feel butthurt when the layperson doesn't know who Duncan is. WGAF?

Being a polarizing person doesn't make you an interesting person. If that was the case then Hillary Clinton would be one most interesting people out there. Kobe is super preppy nerdy character only reason he has endorsements and attention is because he plays in LA. Colorado happened simply because he is a nerd without street smarts. If he played in Milwaukee or Utah nobody would give a shit about him when it came to marketing.

Neither does being a monotone mute on a small-market team. Tim's had a great career--but in their primes--no one in their right mind would argue that Tim's style of play was more exciting or interesting than Kobe's. That doesn't take away from the fact that he's quite possibly the best PF of all-time, but fact of the matter is his game does not appeal to the layperson. I appreciate what he does, but you can't expect casual NBA fans to give a shit about 15-foot bank-shots. Other than basketball what is there to talk about with Tim? His World of Warcraft career? You guys really need to get over yourselves and stop feeling slighted when someone doesn't know who Timmy boy is.

Who is Tim Duncan?: The Spurs captain received numerous e-mails this week with a link to a YouTube video of a recent “Jeopardy” quiz show that featured a question about Duncan. In the provide-the-question-for-this-answer format, the answer was: “This Spurs center is a three-time NBA Finals MVP.”

None of the three contestants provided the correct question, and guesses were Tony Parker and Carmelo Anthony.

“Not my greatest moment,” Duncan laughed. “Melo? Really?”

Video: Jeopardy! contestants can't identify Tim Duncan, doom entire nation (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Video-Jeopardy-contestants-can-t-identify-Tim-?urn=nba-285617)

By Eric Freeman (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie?author=Eric+Freeman)

The NBA courts youth culture more than any other major sports league, but sometimes that pursuit of young fans doesn't pan out. For proof, check out this clip from Jeopardy's collegiate tournament, which began last week and continues Monday night with the start of the semifinal round.

You would think that a bunch of 20-year-old kids would have been able to identify a three-time finals MVP at center for the Spurs, but Tim Duncan (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3173/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3173/news) just doesn't speak to the kids today in the same way as one of those Justin Biebers, or the Pokemons, or whatever the hell kids are into these days. Maybe these bookworms would have had an easier time with the clue if Alex Trebek had mentioned Duncan's love of Dungeons & Dragons. Because that's what nerds like!:pimpslaphttp://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Video-Jeopardy-contestants-can-t-identify-Tim-?urn=nba-285617
