It is strange, but I think they (the refs) were a bit under fire from fans (from Hubie Brown's comments especially a few weeks ago). I also think they don't want their meal ticket fakeshow to get too cocky, and gave em a little reminder of who's in charge of their welfare.

Also, I think its clear to everyone now that the lakers are seriously stacked enough this year to win another championship all by themselves with none of their help so the league probably figures why not deflect all the criticism by throwing a few bones out to other non-contenders (like the suns).

I'd take 100:1 odds if that same play happened in the 7th game of the WCF Turkeylou would be assessed a flagrant 1 at the least.
