View Full Version : Mavs vs Hornets

I can't believe I might actually be pulling for the Mavs to win tonight, but was wondering who the rest of you would want to win this game. I'm assuming the Mavs, since the Spurs would be even with the Hornets in the loss column, although it's early and NO owns the tie break so far.

This. As much as I want the Hornets to lose, we gotta get those Mav fucks off our tail.

Well, it's a victory when either of those team loses.

So all things considered I'll take whatever, because either helps us.

Southwest rivals, only benefit the Spurs either way.

Someone has to bring the Hornets back to Earth. Tonight seems as good a night as any.

this joint is in Dallas right? Dallas got this.

I want Dallas to lose both. They are a proven squad and a tough match-up. The Hornets are off to a great start, but I'm not sure they have the depth and experience to stay ahead of us over an 82-game season. I mean, Jason Smith, Aaron Gray, Pops Mensah-Bonsu and DJ Mbenga are their back-up bigs.

I hope they split the games, which I believe is what will happen, with each team winning on their home floor.

Eh, I'm still rooting for the Mavs to win. No way the Hornettes make it to April as #1 in the West. Dallas, OTOH we should be scared of. They need to pile up some losses early so we can hang with their regular season scoring butts.

A Hornets win would only put them a game up on the Spurs, while the Mavs would be 2 games back from the Spurs. I'd be rooting for the Hornets.

Not terribly impressed with either team. If the Mavs have to count on Jason Terry to hit that many outside shots to win, then they're doomed. I don't think the Hornets took more than a couple shots in the paint in the entire fourth quarter. Not really good basketball. Should be a fun division this year though.

This is the correct answer. NO won't be on top by season's end, but Dallas could.

If you want to blow your load over a 10-game-in regular season "championship," be my guest. Your prerogative.

I bet I could find plenty of people who post on this website and aren't really excited about potentially and temporarily having the best record in the NBA for probably a day or 2 if provided that team X beats team Y on Wednesday.

It's not necessary to get excited about potential, temporary 10-game-in top regular season records in order to post on this website. What an arbitrary remark.

They have the best defense in the league according to the points per 100 possessions metric. What makes you say that the best defensive team in the league (according to that metric) going on an 8-0 streak must have been some sort of "fluke"?

I just think they were on a hot streak honestly, and they'll slowly but surely come back down to earth...

Moreover, both Dallas and New Orleans are playing better defense than the Spurs are to this point.

I will say though that the 2nd half defense by the spurs during that OKC game was extremely encouraging.

I'm really curious to see how well the Spurs will behave defensively once Splitter is on the floor alongside Duncan. The mere prospect of having such a potential lineup to tighten up interior defense (if necessary) is also extremely encouraging.

Let me applaud you for your conventional skepticism regarding our 10 game first place mark.

That being said, no need to be surly if someone like myself opines how splendid it feels to have the best record in the league 1/8 of the way through, especially since this hasn't been the case in many seasons.

You are aware that every internet sports portal hosts power rankings even at this early juncture: there is a market out there for these sorts of things. I mean it's a long way until May so we need something to get excited about.

Secondarily, this start COULD be a harbinger of things to come. We could be talking about a 85+% winning mark a month from now. I'm gonna savor each victory until the sailing gets rough.

I don't blame you for wanting to get as many wins as possible. People say regular season wins mean nothing but thats just not true. If you get enough of them you don't make the playoffs.

Then you always hear people say, "We need some home cooking" or "if we had home court advantage we would have won".

Then there's the team matchups. The west will be so close only a few games will seperate the 2nd through 8th seeds. Do you really want to see the Lakers in the 1st round (although to be the best you've got to beat the best). I would rather see them in the WCF than the 1st round.

So I just agree with your excitement. Why wait til the last minute to start jockeying for good playoff positioning? Win while you can and maybe later on in the season you can afford to give certain players a game or two off.
