If you had John Kerry's ear for 5 minutes today, what advice would you give him concerning tonights debate?

I think Kerry needs to stretch the rules a bit and confront W. directly about the war. Try and Pin W. down so maybe it will throw him off of what are sure to be highly scripted, generic answers to the debate questions. History has shown that when W. is thrown for a loop, it is hard for him to recover.

Kerry also needs to spend some time clarifying his position on Iraq, which despite the Bushivek rhetoric and jokes, has been consistent.

Take the high road on any personal attacks or questions of resolve.

Focus on education, the economy, the poor, and women's/gay rights.

Articulate a clear plan for finishing our responsibilities in Iraq. But don't set a specific timeline.

Question the fiscal strategies of the administration, particularly when so much is being spent on the war.

And for the love of God, quit congratulating yourself over Vietnam.

1. Actually enunciate what you are for. Explain how your plan for defeating the crazy Islamist fuckers who have wanted to kill us for the past 30 years differs from your opponent. Be specific.

2. Be optimistic. Smile.

3. Whatever your story is tonight on Iraq, at least stick to it throughout the debate.

1. Concede and leave the stage.
