Prince William (http://www.people.com/people/prince_william) claims he had been "planning [his proposal] for a while," but his new fianceé Kate Middleton (http://www.people.com/people/kate_middleton) didn't see it coming.

"I didn't really expect it all," Middleton told Tom Bradby of ITV News in the U.K. "I thought that he had maybe sort of thought about it, but no, it was a total shock when it came – and I'm very excited."

I read somewhere that he said it was one of the only personal things he asked for after her death, and that it reminded him of a time when his parents were happy.

Which is really sweet.

But, yeah, I'm still creeped out by it, personally. Especially when you consider Charles was still seeing Camilla Parker-Bowls when he and Di got engaged.

I have quite a few Brits on my twitter feed and watching the British humour people go off after the announcement was high entertainment. Within five minutes someone tweeted "Oh, I hope they make a connection to Diana, no matter how tenuous." Within 30 minutes of that tweet was the first article linking Kate with Diana, lol.

It's very nice for them, wish them well, but as I am not British and live in America, I'm puzzled as to the sheer volume of news coverage over here about it.
