I wasn't sure if this had already been posted. If so, my bad.

What intrigued me was this:

While Prince isn’t expected to be reprimanded by the Pistons, he had a lengthy discussion with his agent Bill Duffy after the game and could meet with team officials in Detroit.

Prince is in the final year of his contract worth about $11 Million [ I do not know if it is fully guaranteed or not]. While we would have no trade assets to throw at Detroit at all, I'm wondering if he's to the point where he could request a buy out. With the recent waiving of Alonzo Gee, I know it's a long shot, but I can't help but wonder if the Spurs got somethin cooking here if Tayshaun Prince asks to be bought out. :stirpot: We'd be solid at the 3 spot with Tay coming off the bench. Again, I know it's a long shot, but :toast here's to wishful thinking.

I'm pretty sure detroit will find someone to take his expiring contract but if he does get bought out even if traded and joins the spurs..it game over if the tashuan of a couple of years ago comes around, in which I still think he has it just been trying too much on the offernsive end now, and would just have to conentrate on defense.

Too expensive. Not that he wouldn't be a good addition, but the Spurs are trying to avoid paying the luxury tax.

If he was bought out or waived by the Pistons sure, other than that...no.

Let's get you up to speed here.

Spurstalk rule #523: Player who argues or questions coach in public is a "headcase", "mental midget", "not spurs material", etc, etc. Kapish?

I wonder if McDyess and Prince were good friends? :stirpot:

Gotta love spurstalk, only place where an overpaid relic from the past making 11 million is revered as a prince :) while a guy in his nba prime making barely standard minimum nba wage (Matt Barnes) is a virtual pariah.

Im a fan of Tayshaun and I think he can still contribute to a team, but this is wishfull thinking to the extreme.

So should we bring Rasheed's moldy cheese smelling ass back, since they were friends too?

For better or worse, the Spurs have a history of bringing in veterans. If Prince is bought out, why not? He's better than Gee. Only a fool would pass up on a 30 year old long small forward with championship experience for the veteran's minimum.

Yes I do agree, for the vet minimum he'd be a great replacement for Anderson, though somehow I don't think he'd be satisfied with such a small role on the team and would cause problems. I mean, he's Tayshaun fucking Prince for chrissake.

I just think it's funny that everyone glazes right over the fact that security almost had to escort him back to the locker room and this wasn't the first incident this year.

Meanwhile, Matt Barnes is content with his small role with the lakers and making barely minimum wage $$ and everyone here can't stand the guy, go figure.

That's actually the tamest one of the bunch. He's got a grim reaper, black panther & freaky looking spider webs and a blazing sun on his arms not to mention 'F.T.H' - 'fuck the haters' emblazened across his chest.

I'd be more afraid of those if I were you.

If he were bought out then of course yes.

Have you seen the list of available sf?

Long 3's are like gold nowadays.

“It’s something that happens,” Prince said. “You can call me the bad guy. I’ve pretty much said something to Flip [Saunders], Larry [Brown] and all my other coaches.

Sounds like him and Pop would get along just peachy.. let's sign him up and watch the fireworks begin!

Don't see any reason why we wouldnt try to nab Prince 'if' he were to become available. If he was bought out you could probably buy him for the vet minimum and money wouldn't be much of an issue to Holt and co.

Currently the Spurs are sitting 2nd in points per game, yes second in points per game at 108.9ppg.

Defensively we have climbed from a torrid start, going from the mid 20s in opponent PPG to 15th in opponent ppg. 15th in defense isn't going to cut it to win a ring and it's very un-spur like. But hey the season is young, we can always improve, and we are indeed improving.

Having an experienced SF to backup RJ who has championship credentials, who is a long armed defensive specialist with a pretty descent offensive game also and picking Prince up after a possible buyout should be a no brainer for us.

But hey he's still playing for the Pistons. and I haven't heard a thing about him or the spurs being interested in each other so i doubt we'd ever get him. But if we did i certaintly wouldn't be complaining:toast

As for Prince, nothing would happen until after the trade deadline. After that it would be worthy of some speculation.

The Spurs can offer up to $2.4M. Tay could offer the Pistons an $2M discount for the buyout and sign with the Spurs.

That signing will put the Spurs well over the Lakers.

Prince is well worth $2.4M, eventually losing lux tax bonus ($3M) and having to marginally pay luxury tax. That's not even the MLE.

And the first thing Prince would do is demand 25+ minutes a game or a starting role, create an atmosphere of indignance in the locker room, and get himself placed in Pop's doghouse in the matter of weeks. All for the price of all the work the spurs did over the summer to be thrifty and stay out of the luxury tax. Well worth the price huh?

This.

Prince seems done. Has been on the sidelines more often than the court.
