What's the front page of ESPN and SI.com?

Why, the perils of an 8-7 team that has never stepped onto the court in a playoff game together.

Gotta love hype, and the total lack of it we have/want/need here in San Antonio. :toast

90% of this board labeled the Spurs done before the season started becasue they can't think for themselves and believe everything the media says. the media is no different in sports than it is in entertainment or politics. it's something people should be very skeptical of.

It's just because of all the expectations about how dominant the Heat would be.

So the Spurs, who were projected to be around a 6-8 seed this year by most people, rattling off 12 in a row with an overtime win after being down 18 to start 13-1 isn't surprising?

spurs1990

Lakers started 14-1 two years ago.

If we can match or surpass that, we'll be numero uno on every sports front page.

I honestly don't give a shit about media coverage. Let BSPN cover the shitty Heat.
Spurs were never a darling team for the NBA and never will be. Popularity never won the Spurs a title, but winning championships gave the spurs respect.

Let the spurs continue to crawl under the radar....

Elliott

How they won 17 straight is amazing.

Even so, that's 14 years ago! Damn I feel old. :lol

If a person was born in 1990, they're 20 now but were only 6 years old when that happened. Now obviously we all know ducks here, but I'm not sure accusing someone of not knowing that stat off the top of their head because they aren't a "real Spurs fan" is valid, since it's 2 years longer than it takes someone to go through grade/middle/high school.

The Jazz were the fucking team I hated the most as a kid....they just always took us out...always. I think I even remember crying as a kid because I wanted the Spurs to beat them so bad...:lol That's why when we took them out in 07' in the WCF's to reach the NBA Finals...It meant a little more to me (Even though it was a completely different team), it was still the Jazz.

Really, I didn't watch sports at all prior to 2005.... except the 90s cowboys. I watched them play with my dad a lot. But it was Manu Ginobili that got me into sports all over again. I won't forget it either. 2005 playoffs, Ginobili scores 39 against the Sonics in game 4. Probably his best game ever.

'96 may have been the last regular season 17 game SA win streak, but off the top of my head the last time the Spurs strung that many wins in a row was when they won the final 11 games of the 2003-2004 regular season, then swept the Pau Gasol-led Memphis Grizzlies in the first round, and notched a 2-0 lead against the lakers in the West Semis before the roof caved in.

Although that was the Fisher .4 shot so we can put an asterisk on the Lakers 2004 title.

In their defense, they have made some changes. Check out this link -

http://espn.go.com/nba/features/best

A day or two ago, they were keeping track of the Lakers and Miami Heat to see if either can put up a comparable record to the legendary Bulls team of past.

Recently, they silently took off the Miami heat and replaced them with the Spurs.

We're not winning 72 games but nevertheless the mere fact that ESPN replaced the Heat with the Spurs says something. It's a subtle form of respect.

We've been fun to watch every year. It's all perception. People were calling us boring back in 2005 when we were running Phoenix out of the building and scoring 120 in a game in the playoffs.

You guys are high or retarded if you don't understand why the Heat are getting all this attention. They're teaming up a two time reigning MVP and someone in Wade who was one of the three best players in the League the last few years. Plus now they're melting down before our very eyes. Its interesting even to people who aren't fans of the Heat. It's by far the most actively talked about topic I see on various NBA message boards. Its not some conspiracy that no one non ESPN or national media message boards gives two shits about this Spurs streak and starts 900 threads about the Heat, its the way things are, stop crying about it.
