Not quite if you grow it yourself and eat it yourself.

But if you give it away to a friend or neighbor, try to sell it or trade it, you would be breaking the law ... also, it's a huge threat to small market farms....

The bill just passed the Senate btw, it's called S510. however, apparently the bill has gone through many changes lately so I'm not sure what it says now.

"food safety" bill is a charade

No law gets passed unless the corps want it passed and the corps profit from it.

The big food corps will get the govt to shut down local producers, direct-to-consumer producers, aka competitors, by raising the entry barriers beyond what the little guys can afford.

And the "safety" barriers food won't make any safer, there won't be funds sto hire inspectors for frequent, effective inspections. IIRC, some inspections are every 5 years.

As immediately identified by the organic producers, local producers, and healthy food industry analysts, 501 is a "safety" fraud and corporate predatory action.

Can you be more specific, please? Are you withholding relevant sources on this topic?

Please don't hoard the knowledge, man.

Health Ranger's article has a few links:

http://www.naturalnews.com/z030418_Food_Safety_Modernization_Act_seeds.html

and use NN's search for "Food Safety Modernization Act"

The eternal, never-fail starting point for evaluating any legislation, esp legislation that gets past "hate + destroy government" obstructionist Repugs, is:

"Which corps or industry is going to profit from the legislation".

iow, "which industries spent the the most to buy the most legislators?"

Have you been suckered by the lying, fraudulent title of the bill? The title of bill is smokescreen for what's really going to happen. How can anybody be against a bill with such a wonderful title?

Do you really think Repugs are gonna vote for increased spending and, horrors!, "regulations" that don't provide more corporate-enriching/protecting/consolidating/cartelizing regulations and their enforcement, esp without demanding cuts in social safety net?

Well, if people would stop electing these authoritarians to office, we wouldn't have such problems. Would we...

What really gets me is these small stores do not participate in interstate commerce. The federal government has no right to regulate them under the commerce clause. Now this LA police thing is different. califirnia has laws as well. I think linking S 510 and this raid are not quite honest. If a state, city, or county regulates these things. That's different. Most places do make it illegal to sell some non processed foods for health concerns. Still, if the video is an accurate portrayal to the said context... I see bigtime lawsuit.

Isn't funny how only one republican votes for a piece of shit bill like this, but nearly all democrats do:

Senate roll call #251 (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=2&vote=00251)

"how only one republican votes for"

Repug enforcers will drive him out of the party. Repugs vote against anything and everything when they are not in power.

how laughable...you hate the effects of corruption in govt, but you cant see this as a govt power grab because maddow didnt tell you it was. And so its relegated to "health ranger stuff," with no political importance. again because your talking heads didnt tell you it had any.

of course I see it as CORPORATE power grab, and has nothing to do with real food safety, since there will be no funding for hiring sufficient inspectors, and no serious attempt or intent to stop the contamination of food on animal and crop farms.

It's doable but it costs money, and there's nothing more important to Americans than their God money.

fair point, but it cant happen without corrupt govt to enact it. and its dems and repubs at this point, so no blame game to be had.

Yes, boutons is a real joke. Sometimes it's fun to point out his gullibility, sometimes best just ignore him.

I can't help but pity those who believe to the MadCow, Olderman, Common dReams, The Huff~n~Puff post, etc.
