View Full Version : *** Indiana Pacers vs. LA Lakers ***

"Going out West, we feel we can play with any of them," Indiana's Danny Granger (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2760) said. "We will give ourselves a chance to win."

"We're confident we can play with anybody," said forward Josh McRoberts (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3220), who had a season-high 13 points. "That's not enough. You've got to go out and win against anybody."

The champs will take the above quotes as a slight. Lakers by 10-15.

Fun game... Indiana has some high flying guys this season. That McRoberts can jump.
Should be a lot closer than regular LA vs Indiana games. Lakers by 33...

^I'm not. The champs were in every game this year. Better decision-making at the end of the games and we're sitting at 16 and rock.

I'll take a SWAG at it (sophisticated wild ass guess).

The champs are known for not taking regular season games seriously. This leads to them losing to scrub teams they are not supposed to lose to.

I saw them shore that up a little bit last year. And so far this year we've only lost to playoff teams.

We're playing to tie Boston for most titles ever. I like their focus so far. Some fans may be worried about this game, but I am not nervous or insecure at all. :toast

Every player including Kobe has off nights, i never said otherwise, genius.

But an MVP, is there in games when they are getting bullied or not. Pau is a great player with tremendous skill ...but an MVP? No he is not.

I drank that Kollaid for the first month ...but the past 3 games have showed me the light. Noah, hibbert and utah in the second half has pushed Pau off the block and heasnt pushed back ...

I agree about the Pacers making the playoffs. They have looked impressive this season, and they're playing in a poor conference, where just playing .500 basketball will get you in the playoffs.

To be fair Kobe had some clutch shots near the end of the game that kept them competitive. He missed the last potentially game-tying 3 (well, 2 of them), sure, but he made a handful of shots before that late in the 4th.

41 points on 14-33 shooting, though.

What do Lakers fans think about his performance overall? You guys pleased with him taking that many shots? Obviously he has the green light to do so, but do you still wish he would defer to Gasol more often than he does (except for maybe in the 4th quarter of close games)?

lakers slept through 3 quarters until the pacers decent play left the door open. kobe made a couple of 3s in a row and went into attack mode because pau was doing nothing. i think its more fatigue than it was hibbert, pau has been logging 42 min's lately, but with injuries there is nothign you can do. lakers dont have a center right now.

Pau sucked today, I'm not denying that, although he did have 12 rebounds, 3 assits and 3 blks, but he gets a lot of unfair criticism for his supposed dissapearing acts, he has bad games as often (if not with less regularity) as Kobe, the difference is he doesn't have the green light to take 33 shots to save face.

Not tonight it was a replay of the Bulls game. they bullied Pau.

Maybe he is tired he is playing mre mins than Kobe right now ...but these last 3 games are not MVPau material ...

Dirk, Rose and Dwill are the favorites ... Kobe is maybe 5th if that Pau is out of the top 5 ...

Personally when we are flat (like tonight) we NEED Kobe to get some shots up to get the crowd back in it. Kobe forced a few but I have no complaints EXCEPT the way we bitched out, outside of Barnes, Blake Kobe and Lamar

the last play was poorly made but odom could have handed the ball to kobe and set a solid pick. but the game is over now and it's all grasping for straws. on to the next game...

This is not about saving "face" ...this is about NOT meeting the Physical challenge Hibbert presented. After some time to reflect the truth is Pau is playing out of position so he should get beat up by those guys, but stop wit the Pau for MVP of the Lakers (doubt anyone will say of the "league after this week). Guys that can be physically or mentally beatdown is not the MVP of any team ....

Does Kobe shoot too much at times? Yes. Is he an arrogant prick and an adulterer? Yes, and yes. But een if Kobe shoots 44% I know he doesnt back down from great physical defense and will contribute his share every night on or off. We dont get that from Pau.

And one last thing i never get the arument that Kobe shoots too much IF he is taking "good" shots. I only get annoyed when he shoots "bad" shots (over 2 and 3 guys, falling away, not in the offense or "heat check" shots).

When i played and coach (now) I work the offense to get shooters open looks, put my rebounders in place to board, put my best defender on the opposing scorer, and get my post guys near the basket. Why would we NOT want the all-time Lakers scorer not to get the most shots? that makes no sense. And if Pau cant beat his man (hibbert) why wouldnt Kobe take 30 shots? Now if Pau has an advantage (golden state, Knicks etc.) of course he should get more touches ...but last night he had none.Hibbert took his manhood much like Finneganen tried to take Andre's ...People say Andre was "suckered" but every man has a breaking point/ Phil even made a comment that Pau has to find a way to meet these challenges even if it's not in his "nature" to respond in kind ...

Some of you guys are dense, in basketball. Want things to be all koom-by-ya ....where the ball is shared equally. i don't I want scorers, to score defenders to defend , boarders to board and

the W is all that matters ...PER, win shares, none of that means crap to me ...

bad loss. the kinda loss that can lose you home court advantage. basically the Lakers really disrespected the game. They played for practically 18 minutes in a 48 minute game. Not to say Indy didn't deserve the win but nowadays, teams aren't afraid to go into Staples.

Agree on the HCA ...a bad home loss is the worst and to me, both of them so far qualify as that because if we play defense we win both ...

But disagree on the fear staples point. I think the fear comes on whther we are gonna be "dialed in" or not. We come to play they may not fear us but they damn sure btter respect us.

Yes, Pau looks "tired" but regardless he cant back down physically ...2 of the last 3 games i have seen that backk down from Pau.
I'll excuse vs. Noah he is a beast. and i know hibbert has improved but that was a disgrace from and MVP candidate. He better nut up against his bro and Zbo ...

Great game from the Pacers. Obviously, the game plan is to force Bryant to keep shooting and Granger and Rush did a great job contesting his shots. With Hibbert improving at this alarming rate and playing like a top 7 NBA center, this Pacer team is dangerous enough to compete in every single game they play. They got the size, skill, athleticism and PG play. After years of mediocrity, it is time for these guys to sniff the playoffs.

LOL if that wa sthe "gameplan" why did they start sending double teams at Kobe? Did you actually "watch " this game?

From a non-Laker fan standpoint, the fear factor of staples has way more to do with how the refs call the games there than actually the lakers team itself.

I was actually surprised how the reffing went last night. It doesn't help that every Laker that sniffs the basket starts yelling and calling 'and1' even before any call was made at all.

Teams just don't go into Staples and say, we're gonna get our asses kicked. Back in the 80s, you knew two things: (1) unless you were the Lakers, you were going into the Boston Garden and get your ass kicked and (2) unless you were the Boston Celtics, you knew you were gonna get your ass handed to you if you went into the Forum. Just doesn't have that same feel.

Looks like teams have a blueprint to beat the Lakers now.

Continually force Pau off the block so he doesn't get his easy turnarounds, and take him out of his offensive rhythm. It really destroys the Lakers cohesion because if you do that, their only player with the ability to attack is Kobe.

Stopping Kobe isn't what you should be looking to do as a team. Let Kobe get his, and shut down everyone else.

*Edit* Not to say that it's an easy thing to do. Gasol is still hard to stop no matter what you do. But the defensive focus should be to prevent the Lakers from getting close shots, not containing perimeter shooting.

That will more than likely change once Bynum returns ... then Pau matched up against some other team's PF is basically murder .......

Depends. There are a lot of PFs in the league who can push Gasol off the block, especially if he's not aggressively working for position.

The teams I only worry about are the Spurs, the Heat, the Magic and the Celtics .... I think everyone else is fodder.

Spurs have Duncan and Blair

Heat have Bosh, who's a bitch on the block and Haslem who may be undersized but is a pretty good post defender. Oh wait, his foot hurt.

KG is actually playing well especially after the surgery. Also throw Perk and J.O. in there.

And with the Magic, Howard usually gobbles Pau up and Bass has a nice low center of gravity.

Dude is gonna hafta earn his lunch this season .......

I think Tiago Splitter is a very good match to guard Pau, as far as his makeup and abilities go. The only problem is youth and defensive consistency. But if Splitter plays to his potential, and plays physical defense BEFORE Pau gets the ball, he should be able to limit Pau to a modest stat line.

Problem with the Lakers have always been defense. I'd say the only problem with the Spurs is that they didn't score enough. Now they're second in the league at doing that.. So far, they look like the best team in the league.

The Spurs need to do 2 things to continue winning and give themselves a shot at the title this year.

1. Improve defensively -- Most desperate in the areas of defending P&R penetration and defensive rebounding.

2. Hitting outside shots (not just 3s) at a high percent. Lots of teams are going to collapse on Parker drives. If the Spurs can hit 40+% of their threes over a series, they are almost impossible to stop on offense because they have Parker, Hill, and Manu, all of whom can get to the rim and get bigs in foul trouble while finishing. Had we had ANYONE to hit outside shots against Phoenix last year, we definitely could have won that series, because we led big in several games but they started focusing on paint defense and we stalled. This year, we have healthy players and a bunch of guys who can drain the trey.
