View Full Version : Winning by the numbers

OK, long holiday weekend combined with a heavy bout of OCD, but I took an obvious thought - Spurs win the game in the 3rd quarter - and put it to numbers.

This is through 16 games and assumes OT scoring for the two games in 4th Quarter numbers and tie scoring in a quarter/half is a "loss":

1st Quarter: 26.7 points, -0.2 differential, win 44% of quarters
2nd Quarter: 24.2 points, +0.1 differential, win 44% of quarters

1st Half: 50.9 points, -0.1 differential, win 56% of halfs

3rd Quarter: 27.8 points, +5.8 differential, win 75% of quarters
4th Quarter: 28.4 points, +3.0 differential, win 50% of quarters

2nd Half: 56.2 points, +8.3 differential, win 81% of halfs

Some other interesting facts:

Spurs have lost both the 1st and 2nd Quarter scoring in a game three times this year (NO, CHI, OKC) and won all three games.

Spurs have lost both the 3rd and 4th Quarter scoring only once this year, in the DAL loss.

Spurs have failed to score 50 points in the second half only 4 times, which included both losses.

Opponents have only scored more than 50 points in the second half 6 times this year.

Spurs have failed to score 100 points only 5 times this year, while opponents have scored 100 or more only 6 times, including two OT games.

Spurs have not outscored any opponent this year in all four quarters, but have been outscored 3 out of 4 quarters by two teams: DAL (loss) and CHI (win).
