View Full Version : Detroit going against all odds tonight

Never in the HISTORY of the NBA, has the road team in both conferences won both games of the conference finals.
If Detroit wins tonight, history will be made.
My thought on this is, that the 2 seeds were the best teams in both conferences this year for the first time in history.
Detroit can win tonight.
I am pulling for Miami, because I want the Spurs to finish a few days ahead of Detroit before they play each other in the Finals.

Well there was, IMO, never really a doubt as to who the better team was in the west. The Spurs spent much of the home stretch of the season fighting injuries, but the Pistons have looked far less invincible this year, at least during stretches. You could really see it during the Pacers series when the Pistons would just take parts of the game off, and then suddenly flip a switch and look like champions again. If they keep that switch in the "on" position this series we'll see some history tonight, but I really don't see a sweep going down. Wade is too good to play that bad during the entire series.

Dr. Jim...I am happy for your team...They have been professional and they played through adversity for years...But there are not many people that get excited about the Pistons & I think the TV ratings show this...
Somehow, when this thing is over & the Spurs fans get a taste of the DUH-TROIT thugs and their chair throwing fans...Many of you will be longing for the days of the Sushi Crowd that needs cue cards to tell them when to applaud at The Staples Center... :smokin

That's a good point. Those Detroit fans are brutal. I remember reading a story about how some Pistons fans found out what hotel the Lakers were staying at and proceeded to drive around the block honking their horns at three in the morning the night before a game. Big props to the Suns fans. Last night there was kind of a ticky tack foul called on Marion or someone and the place erupted into boos, followed by a chant. I was straining to figure out what kind of anti-ref thing it was and I was pleasantly surprised that all they were saying was, "Let's Go Suns."
And there's the chants of "Dee-fense!" CLAP,CLAP "Dee-fense!", which has to be the most disorienting thing to the Suns, because their fans are yelling at them in a foreign tongue.

LOL, too true. And you think Big Shot Bob has a rough time understanding Manu?
As for Detriot - even if they win tonight, I think Miami will make it a series yet. First, I think Detroit, reigning champs though they are, are just not as mentally tough as the Spurs. I think they've been awfully complacent in the Finals, and are likely to be a little flat tonight.
The real question for me though is, will Miami step up? They've coasted through a lot of the season in awe of Shaq's size and D Wade's fantastic season. Well, Detriot is not afraid of Shaq's size, he's not playing well, and D Wade was shut out last game. Will they adjust and fight for their win? I think so - I hope so.
Much as I want the awesome defensive battle of a Spurs/Pistons finals, I also want a win, which will come more easily against Miami.
Regardless, I want Miami to win tonight, because we look like we close out in less than six, and I want some rest for our boys!
I still think the Eastern CF will go the distance. Detroit's offense can go AWOL at times.
Wade and Shaq are too good to go out like punks in 4 or 5 games.

DWade is facing the biggest challenge of his young career.
He really sucked on O and D in Game1.
Thanks to Pistons extending their summer celebrations and laurel-sitting through Christmas 04, the Spurs have HCA.
Remember Larry whining about the Pistons' bad play when the Pistons sucked in Nov/Dec?

"too good" NO
"punks" YES
Besides the Shaq Lakers went out in 5 against the Pistons. What is the difference against a lesser Shaq Heat?Look I hate to say it but its the truth:
Wade is overrated!Truth is Kobe is way better than Wade as a sidekick.
The rest of the Miami team sux!
The Pistons have a Spur of the late and early 00's offense. Erratic! Great defense but erratic offense.

You're right. I remember reading somewhere that the use of puncuation marks is a warning sign of homosexuality. You need to calm the hell down. It's not like anyone on this board is on the Spurs coaching staff or roster. We may be looking down the line hypothetically but what's the harm in that? If the Spurs drop the next four and one of the players admits at a press conference that they read a bunch of posts about getting ready for Detroit on the fan board and that caused them to lose focus then you can proceed with your idiocy.
Holy fuck, that wasn't me!

The only chance Miami has is if Shaq becomes the 35-point, 15-rebound vintage, which I don't think is gonna happen.

DWade MUST have a big game, too, not like Game1. Shaq can't do it by himself, and all the role players have to help.

hose Detroit fans are brutal. I remember reading a story about how some Pistons fans found out what hotel the Lakers were staying at and proceeded to drive around the block honking their horns at three in the morning the night before a game.
There are some things that pistons fans have done of which I did not approve, but I am DAMN PROUD of that.
Opposing teams should be welcomed with disdain, not cheers. Though obviously there is a line you can't cross. Honking 200 horns at night to distub Kobe's beauty rest is certainly fair game. If you disagree, I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree.
First, I think Detroit, reigning champs though they are, are just not as mentally tough as the Spurs.
Don't talk to me about mental toughness, after you guys folded like lawn chairs against the Lakers last year. So they hit a lucky shot. Darn. You came out in game 6 like you were ready for summer vacation. FedEx couldn't have mailed that game in any easier.
Meanwhile, we managed to lose game 5 at home in the same round last year, in double overtime I might add, but we won the next 2 games.
Since this team was assembled, they've handled everything thrown their way. Nobody has ever been able to out-tough this team. You're welcome to try if we meet in the finals, but question their toughness at your own risk.
Detroit rally from a deficit and take the lead by 1 heading into 4th.
Nut check time for Miami.

Wade has 6 points in 3.30 in the 4th.

Wade is going off. Has made like 6 straight shots. Off top he has 16 points in half a quarter.
Miami up 2 halfway through the fourth.

Damn looks like a Miami win.
I was hoping that Wade would choke again...I can't stand all the media hype that surrounds him. Tommorow there will be a million articles proclaiming him the next MJ.

Great block by Wade coming up behind on Billups' attempt to pull up for 3.
Whats wrong with Wade?
He didn't ask for the hype, but it isn't exactly unwarranted.

I don't get it. Of all the shooters on the Pistons team, why the hell has Rasheed Wallace been the one taken the 3's down the stretch?
yesssssssssssssssss!!!!!! Miami comes up with the win, will now probably extend this series out to maybe 6 games now!!!!!!!!!!
if we can get rid of the suns quickly, more rest for us!

Pistons have one of their horrendous offensive games, shoot 38%.

Is it just me, or do the Pistons remind anyone else of the 2003 Spurs? They seem to be great one game, bad the next. They have trouble at times comming through in the 4thQ, they seem to be lacking a good perimeter shooter, etc. etc.
I actually thought that the Pistons had a good chance to beat us if we made it to the finals, but they really didn't look impressive tonight.

Same could be said about us during the Sonics series though. I don't see how a Det/ SA series doesn't go to 7

Man that Pistons offense was hard to watch last night. Rip Hamilton looked like D Wade from Game 1. Hell, he looked like Rip Hamilton from game 1. Billups with 8 turnovers in the half was probably the key stat of the game. The Pistons won the first game by keeping Wade out of a rhythm and not giving him easy baskets to build on. 8 turnovers = transition buckets = Wade being unstoppable in the fourth. Great young talent. I still don't see this series going past six.
1Parker1, you're absolutely right about them being like the 2003 Spurs. Hamilton struggling with his J a la Tony Parker, and Billups being a turnover machine who tries to compensate with second half threes like Jackson. And let's face it, David Robinson and Ben Wallace could be twins. :lol

(Ben was 2 of 10 last night for 4 pts. Where the hell was he shooting from, the 3-pt line?!?)
