Are we about to see Best PG Era in NBA History

CP3,Deron,Rondo,Westbrook,Rose,Wall,Curry,Jennings ,Collison,Harris,Brooks,Lawson,Flynn are all very young and have bright futures

Then you have the elder players still getting it done Nash,Parker,Kidd and Nelson.

Are we witnessing a point guard dominated league?

After the first five on your list, I have a hard time seeing as any of the rest as being really great players in the league. Wall and Curry have a chance, but they also have the chance to be just pretty good players but not superstars or even perennial all stars even though I like Stephen Curry's game a lot.

But having five really great point guards in the league at the same time is still something to be excited about.

But the definition of a PG is still an issue

You have the pure playmakers (Rondo), those who are both playmakers and good scorers (CP3, Nash, D-Will) the ballhogs (Wall, Jennings), the scorers/shooters, the combo guards, etc...

In the late 80's, you had the Magic, Isaiah, Stoquetonne, Price who come to mind (the obvious ones, but there were others, I'm sure); not as many as now, but more passing oriented (although they could score too)

I think Jameer Nelson is one of the most overrated players in the game. Compared to every other PG you mentioned, he gargles nuts IMHO.

You will have very few perennial all star, but a lot of theses young PG will have a bigger impact than multiple times all star on other position

For example D-Will had to wait 3 or 4 years to be all star. But he was already a great player with more impact than every Center not named Dwight Howard.

A good indicator is to check the go to guy by position for the 30 teams :

Guards shoot a lower % than in the 80s. It has absolutely nothing to do with hand checking; a good zone is much more effective.

Hand checking has never shut down anybody good at basketball. They use it for leverage to get around their man easier, if anything.

The league is loaded with a ton of great young PGs, and great young players in general. I haven't been around the longest, but I can't imagine the league ever being this deep before at the PG position.

They may not be ebest but late in games even the spurs start with duncan either in post hoping to get a double so Manu can get a running start or setting the pick to free manu ...

Billups and Parker have been Finals MVPs in the past seven years. Billups was the team's offensive option. They didn't go to Rip in late-game situations. Everything came off Chauncey's big shots or from his hands. From 2006-2008, the Flip Saunders era, it was definitely his team.

If you look back at why that is significant, you will find that Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Tim Duncan took home the hardware from 1991-2003. Steve Nash has been named the MVP twice. The last point guard before that was Magic Johnson (1988-89).

If you look at the game, even with the hybrid guards, guards have gotten quicker, smaller, and more skilled. We're not even talking about the JJ Redicks and Arron Afflalos of the world. Those guys are skilled and very valuable to their teams. We've got some honest athletes at the position in Westbrook and Rose.

Mark Jackson never sniffed the NBA title before 2000 when he was old and done. Tim Hardaway never got to the NBA Finals. Gary Payton only got their once, John Stockton wasn't the best player on two teams that made it to the big dance. We're in a genuine renissance of the position, and a re-definition of it.
