yeah its a supercell formation on the plains. you can see the mesocyclone perfectly. its due to wind updraft being skewed by upper level winds so theres not a steady distribution of air (not much of a downdraft). the storm really blows up and a mesocyclone (swirl) forms and kicks the shit out of anything in its path. i emailed that link yesterday to my weather and climate prof to see if i could brown nose some extra credit lol.

Perfect explanation. A tornado is an extension of that circulation all the way to the ground.

btw...i love storm chasers!
You do somewhat, but not as wide as that because they're underneath that formation most of the time on SC trying to get into a tornado. My one beef with SC is how they cut and paste footage from different storms into one chase but I still love that show.
