I think you mean Frank Gifford. Don Meredith was part of that MNF crew, but not the one you're thinking of.

I thought I read somewhere he retired at 30-31-32 but really didn't want to retire. He was pulling a Farve before there was a Farve but good old Coach Landry didn't buy into it and wished him well so to speak and Dandy Don retired.

One of his teammates said he tried to talk Don out of retiring, but Don didn't have the passion to play anymore.
