Former Spur player and assistant coach and current Sacramento assistant Mario Elie was arrested early Thursday morning in downtown Sacramento on suspicion of drunken driving.

The Sacramento Bee reports that Elie, 47, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol at 1:15 a.m. Thursday at Capitol Mall and 15th Street.

Elie was then booked into Sacramento County Jail and has since been released later this morning.

Tha fuck? That's an MIP.

Definitely sucks, Mario should know better, but seriously, if I had the kinda money and EXCESS free time these former players do, I'm pretty sure I'd get fuckin restless, too...not to mention have to be an assistant coach for the Kings. Jeeeesus.

What is the legal limit in the USA?

They just changed the laws here in Italy and the limit is ridiculously low now. Especially for drivers that have been driving for less than 3 years (18-21 year olds) where the limit is even lower than everyone else. Basically one beer does it.

Does it vary from state-to-state? In Texas, atleast, it's .08.

Never said that. "Driving Under the Influence" (or DUIs) are handed out to minors that have been drinking, but aren't over the limit. You can also get one if you are influenced by drugs (i.e. pot). This thread said he was taken in on suspicion of "drunken driving".

Holy crap.

Mario Elie is 47?

That to me was more surprising lol
But yeah, I'd probably be drinking more often as well if I was an assistant coach for the Kings. :toast

A DUI is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Driving while intoxicated (DWI) is driving drunk, or over the legal limit.

what should the punishment be for PWI? (posting while intoxicated)

There's a limit for a reason. If you are driving under the limit, you are obeying the law, and won't get in trouble....simple as that.

It's always been a horribly gray area that cops take advantage of anyway, so fuck it.

Here is Elie’s statement via the Kings:

“I was pulled over last night on my way home for having a broken taillight. I had been out and had a couple of drinks. My blood alcohol level was slightly over the legal limit. I’m very sorry, embarrassed and disappointed for the position in which I put myself and team. Rest assured, it won’t happen again as I take full responsibility for my actions.”

Team GM Geoff Petrie said:

“We are very concerned and disappointed in regard to Mario’s arrest for DUI. This is an ugly form of history repeating itself. We expect better, knowing at the same time there are limits to how far you can go to protect people from themselves. In spite of all of this, we still respect Mario’s right to due process.”

...That is three people associated with the Kings pulled over for a DUI in the last three months. Antoine Wright was pulled over and arrested for a DUI (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/11/05/kings%e2%80%99-antoine-wright-arrested-for-dui/) on Nov. 4 (he has sense been released by the team). Minority owner George Maloof, Jr. was arrested (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/11/george-maloof-minority-kings-owner-arrested-for-dui-in-vegas/) in Las Vegas drunk driving back in October.

Before that there was then-King Andres Nocioni’s DUI arrest in 2009. Back in 2006 then Kings coach Eric Musselman was arrested as well. And that’s not to mention Tyreke Evans sober but stupid 100 mph chase along a freeway that led to an arrest and a one-game suspension by the league.

he should be ashamed of his actions. i have no sympathy for drunk drivers. my cousin was involved in a car accident when a drunk driver blind sided her. she was permanently paralyzed from the neck down. that was 40 years ago and she's still suffering today. :depressed

that's noble, but in the end he should have admitted to nothing and fought it.

A lot of people have no clue just how little drinking it takes to be over the limit. It sounds like the cops were actually being nice only charging him with a DUI when he was over the limit.

DUI was the most they could give him.
