Ousted mayoral candidate Carroll Schubert decided Wednesday who he will back in the runoff election for mayor.

“After a tremendous amount of thought and discussion, I have decided to endorse Phil Hardberger for mayor of San Antonio,” Schubert said at Hardberger’s campaign headquarters close to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Schubert said he made the decision after meeting separately with both candidates, Hardberger and Julian Castro.

Schubert also admitted he and Hardberger differ of certain things, but in the end, Schubert said Hardberger is a mature leader with fiscal responsibility.

News 4 WOAI talked to Julian Castro Wednesday shortly after Schubert made the decision.

“I’m not surprised,” Castro said. “There’s a small group of developers and lobbyists who want to control City Hall. Carroll Schubert was their first choice, and Phil Hardberger is their backup plan.”

Castro said Schubert called him Wednesday to tell him about the decision.

The runoff election between Hardberger and Castro is June 7th.

(USELESS) AQUIFER PROTECTION ORDINENCE ANYONE??!?!?!?

I fucking HATE Castro with a passion.

I'd put Hardbergers envriomental record against development WAY before Castro's. I think the grease has seeped into his itty bitty stupid head.

Castro would be a disaster. Having just moved to SA I must say, 'sigh of relief' that he's behind in the polls. My 'first glance' view of SA, after 3 years here, is that SA has one of the most ignorant populations of any city I've lived in but thank god, enough people seem to be getting this one right.

Man, when I first moved here one of the first things I did is start taking the pape and it just scared the SHIT out of me when I first read it. I'd just read it and shake my head. Now it doesn't faze me. San Antonio is a good town with good peeps, don't get me wrong...but it's taken some getting used to. Hard to put into words and not worth the time but I see things and just go....'only in San Antonio...only in San Antonio'. But, good stuff too...so, it's always a trade off.

It's so cheap to live here it's hard to complain.

I predicted Harberger would win, but political destiny is not always set in stone. Castro must use some of his political capital to get the backing of prominent San Antonio entreprenuers and statesmen if he wants to make this a close race again.

If Casto is elected look for great public works projects like heated seats in the Alamodome and increased air conditioning capacity.

This city has been it's own worst enemy long enough. I haven't been here long but I know I ain't voting for him.

Rumurs are WRONG most of the time. And Dan, why jinx him by picking him! :lol

I can't stand Castro. Seeing his face on TV makes me want to upchuck. And now that I've seen he has a twin, double upchuck. It's like roaches, for everyone you stomp, there is another hiding in the walls.

I can't vote in SA elections, but GO HARDBERGER!
