View Full Version : What is your favorite NBA game you've watched (by your team)?

It doesn't have to be a championship game, or an important one, or even one you may have attended. You could've caught this shit late on TNT one night. What was your personal favorite game, for whatever reasons?

Mine was regular season of the 1999-2000 season when LA and Portland met late in the year with identical 45-11 records and 10-11 game winning streaks IIRC. Lakers won narrowly in Portland and went on to finish the season 67-15, while Portland spiraled out of control and finished 59-23. Shaq and Kobe led the Lakers with 23 & 22 points respectively. The game lived up to the hype and still sticks in my memory to this day as one of the funnest to watch, despite the low score.

in Feb/Mar of 2007, a regular season Mavs/Suns game that went to double OT. I went to the game and it was probably the most entertaining game/atmosphere I've been to at the AAC, even if the Mavs lost.

Close second would be the regular season opener in 2000 where Najera got his first start ever and all the Mexicans in the crowd cheered for him like he was Jordan.

Ones that standout without really thinking are Game 5 in '05 finals, Horry's amazing performance.

I would have to go outside my own team's games and say that game where Reggie Miller went off on the Knicks in the 1995 EC Semifinals. Down 105-99 and scoring 8 pts in like 9 seconds? That was an incredible feat for a player and I remember just how frantic that game was and how my friends and I would attempt to replay that last few moments on the court.

Yeah, I own the blu-ray and it made the selection for me. That series, in itself, is amazing. The only one I didn't really care for was the Fantasy Sports one, but even that had an interesting story. The Little League one was also a little short on the story. I do plan, however, to purchase the whole set when I get a chance.

Regular season game with near front row in Houston when Robinson put up 55 on Hakeem despite the fact Rodman was clowning around that game for the Spurs.

2nd would be a luxury box suite tickets for Jordan vs. Sonics when I lived i Seattle and S. Kemp dominated that game in one of the Sonics losses in a 6 game series.

Loved that game. Always remember 'Toine getting in Pierce's ear pumping him up and essentially pleading for him to save their ass. I had always like Pierce before, but I became a huge fan after that game and after the heart and will he displayed to keep driving the lane.

As for mine, I'd have to have a few categories.

Maybe my favorite is 2003's Game 6 in L.A. (http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200305150LAL.html) Tim put together maybe the most beastly of games ever played in a Spurs uniform, under the circumstance (venue and opponent). Looking back, it was the peak of his dominance -- and one that should have lasted a little longer had he not played summer ball the two following years and accumulated the injuries and wear and tear. Still a beast after '03, but I'll always feel like we got robbed of seeing a year or two of his absolute peak.

Regular season game has to be Suns-Spurs in '05 (http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200501210PHO.html) for me. My boy had just got back from Iraq and we started getting absolutely blitzed as we saw the Spurs go down about 20 or so and end the third down 17. Basically threw in the towel. And then the Spurs (Manu) went nuts to come back and win the game in overtime. Just entertaining as hell, and the alcohol and my bro being back from Iraq only made it more so.

Also, one that some might not appreciate or remember, is a regular season game against the Lakers in '04 (which the Spurs actually lost). It was the first time we saw the player that Manu would become and realized he was more than just a pretty nice player. No Tim, No Tony, No Robinson (http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200311060SAS.html) ... the Lakers coming into the game with all the hype, the motivation of avenging last year's playoff loss and having their new "Big 4" intact, Manu singlehandedly manages to put the Spurs in a position to win -- having, IIRC, two shots at the buzzer just miss -- and only falling short after 2 OTs. Maybe it's just me, and maybe it's the fact that when you're accustomed to your team winning and being championship-caliber, but it almost seems like the games where your team is depleted and the expectations are out the window are the ones you find most enjoyable to watch. It's like unprotected, stress-free, no-consequence sex.

And of course there's the Memorial Day Miracle, Game 5 and 7 of the '05 Finals -- hell, any of the Finals-clinching victories (Kerr's Game 6 in Dallas was another one) -- but it's really like choosing between children. Ya know, it depends who has the hotter mother.

The fact that game is your favorite tells me you're a bandwagon Lakers fan who jumped on during the 3 peat. Or you're under 25 (which I won't hold against you).

Guess you and Shaolin were too coked up and busy with buttsex to see Magic's Game 6 against the 76ers, or the infamous baby hook over McHale and Parish.

And the funny thing is, the .4 game didn't even lead to a title :lol

The Mavs-Kings rivalry in the early decade produced the most entertaining games in the NBA at the time and this was probably the best one out of them all.

The .4 game actually sucked balls, tbh. Great last two shots, and maybe one of the most ridiculous finishes you're ever going to see under the circumstance, but the game was brutal -- just sloppy and not what I'd consider two of the best displaying why it was they were.

73-74 (http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200405130SAS.html)? Ugh . . .

The only thing that sucks more than the fact that Tim went and represented Team USA in Puerto Rico after winning the championship, and the fact that it led to him wearing down in '04, is the fact that all of those douches that he helped lead to the destruction of the world in that tournament bitched out and left him to get screwed with that '04 Olympic team.

Funny how everyone seems to forget how dominant that team was down in Puerto Rico before they sent that abortion of an assembled team to Athens and proclaimed the world had just gotten that much better. But I digress.

How about in 07 when the #8 Warriors knocked off the #1 Mavericks??? (lmao, never ceases to amaze how hard Dallas chokes)

The Warriors arena was pretty damn eclectic throughout that entire playoff run if you ask me, remember the Boom-dizzle slam all over Kirilenko???

n Game 6, the Warriors used a third-quarter 18–0 run to eliminate the Mavericks and become the first #8 seed to beat a #1 seed in a seven-game series in one of the biggest upsets in NBA playoff history.
The Warriors went on to play the Utah Jazz in the second round of the 2006–07 playoffs, where they dropped two close games at EnergySolutions Arena to open the series. The series then shifted to the Oracle Arena, where the Warriors won Game 3 in a convincing blowout. Baron Davis scored 32 points and electrified the crowd with a monster dunk on Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko late in the fourth quarter.

It's so difficult to narrow it down..

For the Spurs, my favorite was Spurs-Knicks game 5 in the Finals..I was at this game, Duncan's 2nd half was amazing, he was making everything he threw up at the rim..the crowd was crazy, as usual..

#2 would be Spurs-Lakers game 6 in 2003..everybody was so used to seeing the Lakers come back from everything during their 3-peat, other teams always choking..after Kevin Willis' putback, it finally felt like the Lakers were actually going to lose a series, for the first time in years..

Horry vs. Detroit, obviously..pretty much any Suns-Spurs games where the Spurs won, the games were always exciting..

In games where the Spurs lost, Mavs-Spurs game 7, pretty easily..I still can't believe Dirk made that and-1..

For other teams:

Lakers-Kings in almost any of their games, despite what happened in the game 6 in 2002..even though it's cliche and predictable, Mavs-Warriors was great..Pacers-Nets, where Reggie made the game tying banked 3..the Pistons-Nets game with Scalabrine coming up big, and Billups making the huge shot..

For random regular season games, Suns vs. Nets from a few years ago was crazy, with pretty much every All-Star in that game going off, with Nash finally ending it with a game winner..Carter vs. the Raptors in multiple games..

I know what you're saying. That was one of the most memorable NBA games I've ever watched. I felt the whole time that the Lakers would just flip the switch like they always did and come back in the 4th and win it in 7. At that point, I was really rooting for the Spurs to stick it to them and watching Parker, Ginobli, and Duncan just calmly pick apart the frustrated Lakers in the 4th quarter was pretty surreal

This is the first one I thought of. Just enjoyable as hell to watch Manu battle four HOFers to a standstill all the way into double overtime.

Runners up:

Sean Elliott's comeback game after the kidney transplant, I think it was against the Pacers.

The Houston comeback game w/ Mario Ellie's kiss of death in '99 that started the team on the run to the first ring.

Regular Season Cavaliers: The LeBron-Wade duel in March/April 2006. Nationally televised Saturday afternoon game and LBJ and Wade traded haymakers throughout the fourth quarter. LBJ had 47-12-12, Wade had 45-9-8 (or something like that.)

Postseason Cavaliers: Game 5, 2007 ECF.

Up7yX2Fwui

Game 2, 1992 ECF: Cavs punked the Bulls in Chicago, 107-81 when a lot of people were predicting a sweep. For whatever reason everything went wrong for the Bulls that night. I don't remember it being anything the Cavs did in particular. Chicago was just really flat and really terrible.

The Bulls then came out in Game 3 @ the Coliseum and took a 26-4 first-quarter lead on the way to an easy win. They pretty much dominated the rest of the series.

Postseason Other Team: Game 1, 2001 Finals. AI's finest hour. That Philly won one game in the series was a near-miracle after what LA did to the West field. LA had the 76ers dead in OT before the 76ers came back. Eric Snow hit an absolute BS shot to clinch it.

All Philly did was make the Lake Show mad. Still, awesome game to watch.
