If you would have told me that at this point, the Spurs would average 107/game before the season I would have laughed in your face (with spittle). That RJ and Hill have been so consistent is the sole reason. Getting role players hot during certain stretches is huge, but no way you can keep putting up these numbers if either of those guys goes through a cold streak over the course of the season.

I don't know, but RJ has been playing pretty solid ball. When he brings the energy, he seems to know where to be this year. He is playing within the system and suddenly we have a ultra-athletic guy hitting his shots.
Nice to have that 4th closer. I think we all saw that when he drained those three 3s earlier in the season.

I'm just glad Simmons or Udoka or another "minimum signing" isn't the starting small forward like many on here bitched and moaned for the whole off-season.
Great move Pop and R.C for locking up R.J, the most realistic/ best option available at the time. :tu

Jefferson is playing great, I was upset with the signing(too long and too much $), I would have rather had Anderson or Hairston(if he didn't get injured and then stashed in Europe) start at the time..obviously that looks silly now, since Jefferson seems to have had some miraculous improvement, where he's now a legit starter that creates a mismatch on the offensive end..
However, Jefferson's problem last year was that he was a massive liability in the playoffs and completely folded under pressure, while providing nothing on the defensive end..his true test will obviously be in May and June, if the Spurs make it that far..
Pop deserves more credit than anybody IMO..he took a player that was seemingly on the decline, and knew he had to put in as much work as possible to help him out, since the Spurs didn't have any other options for their starting SF..I don't know what he did, it seems mysterious since neither of them have actually said anything, but it's working, obviously..

I always liked Jefferson as a player, but I thought he was a terrible fit for the Spurs system and style of play. I never thought he crumbled in his first season so much as he just didn't fit. He never got the kind of touches he needed to get into rhythm, and his presence just sort of chopped up the offense as well as his own game.
I give him and Pop both a lot of credit. He obviously worked hard in the offseason. But Pop has also allowed for some changes to the offense that accomodate RJ better. They both altered their style, and that's a lot more rare than most people think. And if I'm being honest, I didn't think either one of them had it in them.
RJ is a better defender now than he has ever been in his career. And Pop is letting the horses run. Seriously - did you ever think that you would see the Spurs run an alley-oop play that didn't land someone in the doghouse?
Edit: BTW - Jefferson never had a problem performing in the playoffs before. His last couple of seasons in NJ, his numbers actually went up in the postseason.
Also, Jefferson was always one of the best players in the league at getting to the FT line. Last year, that stat dropped off the map. It's not that he suddenly couldn't draw a foul. It was about the way the Spurs offense runs, and how he was featured. He just wasn't able to play his game. It will never be the same for him here, but now he is at least getting enough opportunities. He deserves some credit for accepting that compromise, too. Like Manu coming off the bench for so long, it takes some personal sacrifice.

As soon as we acquired RJ, I knew it would take a while for a player like him, to be comfortable in the Spur's system, and then improve the well-being of that system. But there was never a doubt in my mind that RJ would contribute on a big scale, given some time to settle in.

That was my favorite part of the game as well. Sean Elliott was right--they just needed to move the ball. Maybe that's what they'll get out of this game. Once they did that, they stopped whining to the refs and started being the aggressors.

I gotta agree, its been fun seeing short sighted rj haters eating crow, wit a side o' dick.
In second half of the season and playoffs, rj already played better, last year. On top of that if you add the restructred contract, a full summer and training camp with the team. Its not much of a surprise he has played as he has so far. What is the shocking is how clutch he is, I mean, in several games this year, he has drained dagger threes on multiple occasions. Didnt know he had that in his game.

Jefferson was a complete non-factor in 4 of the 6 games against the Mavs..he was pretty good in the other 2 games, but he was a disappointment for the most part..he was the 6th best Spur in that series..
Against the Suns, sure, nobody had a great series, because the Spurs got swept..however, Jefferson was one of the worst players on the entire Spurs roster, and one of the main differences is that he literally wasn't being covered for most of these games, unlike the big 3..
Dudley said that the Suns strategy was to leave him open and make him beat them with his jump shot, and he couldn't deliver..
No one ever hated on RJ, no one ever abandoned the Heat and no one doubted the Heat if they win it all. There it's settled, everyone is a fucking liar.

Jefferson finds home in corner (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2010/12/11/jefferson-finds-home-in-corner/)
Jeff McDonald
...Living primarily in those corners, Jefferson is shooting 45.7 percent from 3-point range. Not only is that a career high, it’s more than 10 points better than his career average.
“I’m shooting a lot more threes than I’ve ever shot,” Jefferson said. “That’s what this offense breeds and what I’m trying to maximize.”...

Um so in our defense the Spurs were a JUGGERNAUT in 2010-2011. They had an unbelievable record for most of that season until a late season losing streak. They finished with the best record in the NBA and probably would have gone to the Finals had they not ran into Memphis.

They wouldn't have gone anywhere. The late season slump was caused by injuries. The team that faced Memphis had a seriously hobbled Duncan and broken arm Manu in it. At that point they would have lost a 7 game series against most of the teams in the playoffs, it just happened to be Memphis.
