Where do they get put in the ranking of Eastern teams?

They're already at a respectable 16-9 (9-1 in their last 10) due to a monstrous start from Amar'e. If you throw Carmelo on the team, where do they rank? I'd still put Boston, Orlando, and Miami in front of them. But after that... I'd be hardpressed to put anyone else over the Knicks if Amar'e continues to play like he does and Carmelo is his usual self.

Melo is an excellent defender....

Plan and simple... If Melo joins the Knicks, they will be a force to be rekon with

If the Knicks are feeling really confident, they could just wait until the next offseason and not give up anything for him.

This. Melo did say that he wouldn't sign an extension with anyone except the Knicks (if he were traded). I stand pat if I'm them.

Since they traded for Amar'e, I assumed defense wasn't a priority. (rimshot)

Good assumption. Having Melo there just completes the trifecta: DiAntoni, A'mare, Melo........ the 3 defenseless stooges.

I don't think they'll good as they're rolling right now. I say they should squeeze everything this season and then roll the dice in the off-season.

Carmelo Anthony tuning out trade speculation (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-nuggets-anthony)
By Pat Graham

...The rumor mill cranked up over the weekend as Anthony played in New York against the Knicks, a team he reportedly has interest in playing for one day.

He downplayed all the reports that surfaced while he was in the Big Apple.

“More of the drama, man,” Anthony told reporters Monday after a maintenance day for the players. “I was there and so it was a hot topic to talk about it. I’m not worrying about it. That’s not my focus right now. My focus is to try to get some wins back home.”

...When asked if he wants to remain in a powder blue uniform, Anthony responded, “Of course.”

“If you’re in any place for eight years, that’s going to be home. That’s what you call home,” said Anthony, who has led the Nuggets to the playoffs in each of his seven seasons. “This community has embraced me like I was one of their own. So, of course.

“I just really want to focus on basketball right now—let the business take care of business when that time comes. My goal is to go out there every night on the court and continue doing what I’m doing.”

...Karl doesn’t think the rumors will be a distraction, even as the trade deadline nears.

Still optimistic Anthony might stick around?

“I stay away from that information, that gossip, that Internet action/reaction,” Karl said. “Melo, as long as he’s a Nugget, I’m going to coach him and be happy with him.”

Knicks are playing western-conference ball. Much like when Billups went West, and brought eastern-conference ball to Denver, they will have success for 1, maybe 2 seasons. But after that, the other teams in the conference will figure them out and they will have a hard time getting past the 1st round.

I could see the Knicks getting to the conference finals this season, and maybe next. But that would be the limit of their game without playing defense in the East.

Carmelo Anthony denies he gave Denver an ultimatum (let’s have an argument) (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/13/carmelo-anthony-denies-he-gave-denver-an-ultimatum-let%e2%80%99s-have-an-argument/)
Kurt Helin

This whole Carmelo Anthony trade thing is starting to sound like a Monty Python skit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teMlv3ripSM). No it isn’t. Yes it is. No it isn’t. Yes it is. Isn’t. Is.

Two days ago came the report that Anthony would only sign an extension with the New York Knicks (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/12/report-melo-will-only-sign-extension-if-traded-to-new-york/). Then today another report said the Nets and maybe the Nuggets still had a shot (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/13/reports-new-jersey-maybe-even-denver-still-in-play-for-carmelo-anthony/) (something the author of the original report denied). Somewhere on the sidelines the Houston Rockets are jumping up and down saying, “look at me, look at me.”

Monday night, Anthony told FanHouse that he did not give an ultimatum (http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/12/13/carmelo-anthony-knicks-trade/) to the Nuggets.

“No,” Anthony said when asked if there’s any truth to it. “I haven’t talked to Masai (Ujiri, the Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations) about who I would sign an extension with, and who I want to sign with. I’ve never had that conversation.”

Let’s break this down, and we’ll give you the five-minute argument not the full half hour.

Of course Anthony did not tell Ujiri this directly — that’s what the people at CAA are for. You know, Anthony’s agents and managers. World Wide Wes. This stuff is never handled through the front door, it’s always though channels. Anthony will forever have plausible deniability.

So Anthony did not tell the Nuggets anything. What his people told the Nuggets, what Anthony said in his private conversations with Ujiri, who knows? Most likely Anthony’s people are playing hardball and saying Knicks only, Denver’s side thinking there is more in play. That by the way is speculation, and you could spin 100 scenarios just like it you could be right.

So Anthony is not lying, he didn’t say anything. But that doesn’t mean that some kind of ultimatum has not been delivered.

And now for something completely different.

Melo just seems so right for NYC. He was destined to be a Knick imo.

It would depend on what Knicks would have to give up. If they can get away with Anthony Randolph, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry, and 1st rounder for Melo. They would be in good position to beat any team outside of Boston and maybe Chicago if they keep playing like this. I think they match up really well with Miami and Orlando because they have athleticism at the 1-2-3 positions to gaurd those wing heavy teams.

Melo plays excellent D when he wants. Key phrase is when he wants, and it will be in porn stache's system. But damn if they wouldn't be able to score with any team.

He would mess the building chemistry aspect because of how he plays the game. He takes a large amount of the team's shots, and he likes to have the ball in his hand. Will ruin alot. Stupid trade if it occurs.

they still not even top 5. 2 of the dumbest superstars in one team: Amare + Melo
