View Full Version : After dozens of deaths, drop-side cribs outlawed

You have to be fucking kidding me!!! We live in a country full of pussies. I used to say "what are you going to ban next, baby cribs?" "They" went out and finally did it.

WASHINGTON – It's the end of the traditional crib that has cradled millions of babies for generations.

Just because something has been around forever doesn't necessarily mean it's correct. If these cribs are causing deaths, then they should probably outlaw it. Or at least make the manufacturer put a big sticker on it saying, "Known to cause infant deaths".

I don't know if 32 deaths in a decade is a big number... doesn't seem it, but they don't show the track record of "fixed" cribs for comparison.

And five years from now they will realize they have tens of thousands of back injuries from people having to bend over at the waist and pick the kids up to get them out.

Gee. Who would have ever seen THAT coming?

Eh, I'll take some back pain if there's less of a chance that my kid could die, personally.

I wonder how many things cause more than 32 deaths over the same period.

Another example if government regulations running amok if you ask me.

Stinger, do you believe that we are entitled to be 100% safe from all retail items? Out of the billions of items sold annually, isn't it possible that some are either misused, or defective? I don't mean to sound cold about this, but 32 deaths in what. A decade?

I simply do not believe in achieving 100.000000000% safety.

Any death is tragic, especially to those close. I simply don't see the practicality of this ban.

Care to enlighten me? At what failure rate is OK? Will it ever be zero?

As I said, I'm not an expert. Those who seem to be experts inbaby nursing/health care called for the ban. *shrug*

Edit: Also, they don't give "amount of deaths" for other types of cribs, so no way to compare.

This is from the left field, but...
Why is it ok to have a certain 'acceptable casualty rate' in this but not in terror-prevention?

I am short and have back problems. I am trying to figure out how I could have gotten my child out of his crib when he was a year old without the drop side. I never had any problem with it.

I feel bad for anyone who has lost a child, but I wonder how many of these deaths were due to misassembly, as opposed to the design. People can not even put their car seats in their cars right.

Millions and millions of babies for many, many, many, many, many generations have used the drop down baby crib with no problems. But we do live in a different age. The age of the big fat pussy and of course useless parents. Guess what? The baby crib is now a problem. Lets all of a sudden point the finger at the crib maker.

How about just put a little warning on the side of the crib and let the mature adults decide for themselves where their baby sleeps. Let the mature adult put the little crib together and make sure all the screws are in tight. Let the mature adult listen to the little baby monitor at the chance something goes a rye or let the parent decide if the baby crib should be in same room with the mature adult. Let the mature adult decide if they can lift the baby up without a drop down. You want to ban something, ban the asshole parents putting there kids safety in danger everyday by beating them, leaving them alone for days at a time, shooting up, molesting, ban those people. A freaken baby crib that's been around forever... It a bad joke man.

there have been reported a number of death cases caused by drinking too much wet water, so that wet water is supposedly a dangerous thing and should have been banned already.

Did someone just call out the Stinger?

http://www.wrestlingmuseum.com/images/photos/sting01.jpg

32 deaths in a decade is about 3 a year. What if these crib Research and Development people found a way to make a crib that lowers the rate down to less than 1 per year so that even dumb fucking useless immature parents can use them? It's not the child's fault that items that need 1/2 a brain are assembled by their no-brain parents.

Children are entitled to lessening the chances their stupid parents kill them on accident. IMHO.

But hey, at least we agree that 100% safety is unattainable.

The ban isn't practical at all. I am not sure why we dont adjust the standards of the plastic & wrap the damn things in assembly warnings. To recall millions? My son & all of my nephews & nieces were raised in drop side cribs. I think this to be a bit drastic. Just MO.

Please tell us old wise one. Give us all the facts.

RG said it best. A product that has 99.999999 safety record has been banned. Pretty nuts!! Lets ban cars next.

Well, its not like the government doesn't mandate safety features to be included in cars as time goes by. I don't recall you having a tantrum when the NHTSA mandated airbags in cars.

Fuck the NHTSA and all the federally mandated bullshit. A fucking 1 ton work truck now costs $50,000 because of all the bullshit. They have doubled in price in 10 years.
