not possible with his stats even being the best player on the best team :wakeup

They'd give it to Amare even witht he knicks ending up having the 7th best record of the league overall.

Let's be realistic.

The only way I can see this happen is if Manu does the following:

1. Gets his scoring average to at least 23 points per game.
2. Hits a few more game winners throughout the season, minimum like 5-6. 7+ would be ideal.
3. Continues stellar play on both ends of the court.
4. The Spurs win 68+ games. Particularly if they win 70+, because that's significant to people.

This is all supposing he stays healthy.

I seriously doubt #4 happens, simply because Pop would rather give our players rest than win 70. He would tank a few games at the end of the year to get ready and healthy for the playoffs.

If all of the above happens, then Manu will likely place in the top 3, and might have an outside shot at the MVP. Even then, it's doubtful. The Spurs have always been a 50+ win team per season, and they're perhaps deeper this year than ever. The Knicks were horrible last season and with the arrival of Amare are probably a top 5 team out East.

I would wish, but sadly, the "big picture" is LeBron, Dwyane Wade, ect.

He's on the race.

Nash's stats weren't so impressive but he won 2 MVPs.

If he leads the team to the best record he could win it.

Ginobili is the Finals MVP type of player.

There is nothing really at stake in the RS.

He would be dead by the playoffs if he has to play MVP ball for the entire season..

Best player of the best team means MVP. I'm happy, however, that this logic doesn't apply to the Spurs

In Denver he was clutch in the 4th as the MVP should be.

Isn't this voted for by the press? No chance.

The NBA MVP award is about the same as college football's Heisman. It's all a bunch of bullshit honestly.

You people do realize that each one of you posting in this thread is going directly in Ducks's ignore list, no?
