Juarez counts 3,000th homicide of 2010

Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, made its own history Tuesday as its homicide rate reached 3,000 deaths for the year -- 10 times the number of killings annually that the border city counted just a few years ago.
With two weeks left in the year, 2010 is now the deadliest year Juarez has ever seen, a spokesman for the Chihuahua state attorney general's office told CNN.
"At 12:15 p.m. we hit 3,000 murders for the year. The state attorney general's office had the number at 2,998 as of Monday and with the two murders today that brings us to 3,000," spokesman Arturo Sandoval said in a phone interview with CNN late Tuesday.

The killings happened in two separate incidents, according to Sandoval. One of the victims was found shot dead in a car and the other was shot and killed in front of relatives. The victims, 35 and 46 respectively, were both males, Sandoval said.
Before a spasm of drug-related violence hit the city in 2008, the bloodiest year in Juarez was around 300, according to Sandoval.
"Last year we had 2,656. The year before in 2008 it was around 1,500 and in 2007 we had about 300," he said. "Can you imagine?"

Where is this mysterious domestic force of "a few hundred thousand armed forces?" Let's say we had hundreds of thousands of said people, why would we put them in Mexico?

Do you realize how bad the situation is down there? It's probably the most corrupt system in the history of mankind. The cartels run the country, and they bump off politicians, police chiefs, and other authority figures like it's child's play. They peel people's faces off and put them on soccer balls for fucksake. And putting them down there "for a year" is even more laughable then putting them down there in the 1st place...yeah, I'm sure everything would be just peachy come next year.

Everybody has a price, and those cartels pay it in either blood or money to ensure they'll always be in business. Only way to make it stop is to legalize it, thus rendering them powerless.
Sending an army down there is just stupid on so many levels.

I don't know 100% how bad it is, but the U.S should not sit around and let Mexican policemen and officers go at it alone especially if its anywhere near as bad as you are saying. Legalization of marijuana would also do wonders too, but we all know that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

America's plan in Iraq was to go in, dominate, then reorganize. They declared victory in 2 weeks. Of course the Taliban and resurgence hid and fought back, but that is thousands of miles away and we basically destroyed their current regime.

Mexico on the other hand has a government. It has citizens and most of them do not want the bloodshed and gangsters in their neighborhood. I think you are reaching when you say the cartels run the government. They're big and they're crazy, but they obviously are not the government, and I don't think the avg mexican family is rooting for the cartels to win over their own government. This can be achieved especially if America fights with them.

Sitting around waiting for the mexican govt to finish them off or us making steps to legalize is absolutely irresponsible and immoral.

Agree with this, the only thing that hinders any effort to eradicate the violence in Mexico is the corruption associated. It's really really really bad.

Correct. And the only reason the U.S is not really helping is because it doesn't care if its not in their border. The U.S is all about public image and how its current gov't can hold up. If we help Mexico, our government is thinking "ok if we help mexico, how many other countries do we have to help?". I understand this sentiment because it is not our duty to protect the world. But in the case of the mexico boarder killings, this should most definitely be our fight.
