sons I don't care if its pro basketball, college basketball, pro football, or t-ball ... 88 wins is an absolutely incredible accomplishment. No team college or pro has had more success than Geno's UCONN program. They tied the all time win streak today and will go for 89 this Tuesday on ESPN against Florida State.

Just look at SOME of the talent Geno has produced over the years ...

Tip o' the cap to that program--I don't care if you follow women's hoops or not, that measure of greatness must be recognized.

Props!

I want to see the HBO Real Sports they did recently on him. I read his book and it's incredible how far he has come up to take UCONN to such an elite status.

Hilarious excerpt from Geno's book about butthurt Pat Summitt (who won't even play UCONN anymore because of constant beatdowns and Maya Moore choosing UCONN over Tennessee) and a personal friend of Geno's (Harry) who helped coach Tennessee that season ...

"Anyway, we win our regional game against Purdue, and here come the writers. They want to know what I think of Harry and Pat. Villanova had beaten us earlier that year, so they want to know if I think Harry has given Pat any insights into our team. So I say, "I'm not worried about that. Pat is going to coach her team the way she coaches her team. But what I am really sick of is this Harry and Pat stuff. If I hear one more story about the two of them, I'm going to throw up. They're over each other's house, they're having a cookout, they are in the hot tub together, probably. How far is this going to go?"

The writers are laughing, and I'm laughing as I say it, but obviously it doesn't go over too well. Pat never says anything to me, but I get word she is ticked off. Harry isn't mad at all, but he does call me up to say, "What are you doing?" I shoot back with, "Yo, how's the hot tub?" He says, "You've got to stop." I say, "No, you've got to stop, because you know, she's married and you're married and you better cut it out, or people will start talking."

Geno after the game ...

"I know there would not be this many people in this [press] room if we were chasing a women’s record. The reason why everyone is having a heart attack the last four or five days is a bunch of women are threatening to break a men’s record and everyone is up in arms about it. All the women are happy as hell and can’t wait to come in and ask questions. All the men who love women’s basketball are excited, and all the miserable bastards who follow men’s basketball and don’t want us to break the record are all here because they are pissed. So that’s the way it is.

If we were breaking a women’s record, everybody would go: "Aren’t those girls nice. Just give them two paragraphs in USA Today or give them one line on the bottom of ESPN and let’s send them back where they belong in the kitchen." But because we are breaking a men’s record, we have a lot of people paying attention."

Geno Auriemma: UConn Women Disliked Due To Gender

Geno Auriemma finally let loose: He thinks some people are rooting against his record-setting players because of their gender.

"I just know there wouldn't be this many people in the room if we were chasing a woman's record," the Connecticut coach said Sunday near the end of his postgame news conference. "The reason everybody is having a heart attack the last four or five days is a bunch of women are threatening to break a men's record, and everybody is all up in arms about it."

Impressive no matter how you look at it. Geno and UConnn women pretty much took a stranglehold over college women recruiting from Tennessee. I think it's like USC football in the early 2000s. UConn just gets all the best high school players. There were those accusations a few years ago by Pat Summit that UConn used their proximity to Bristol located ESPN headquarters to help with their recruiting, specifically with Maya Moore. I wonder if more violations will ever surface the way it does for men's college football and basketball programs. I'm guessing it won't. Regardless, it's been a pretty impressive run for that UConn women's program. Unbelievable streak. Baylor and than manchild chick should have ended the streak.

I'm 100% sure Udoka could mis those two shots.

Nah. He'd get fouled by the air and then shoot 4 free throws. He'd make maybe one of them. So he'd get a point more than the women here. Give him props where it's due, man.

15,000 in attendance fwiw.

You don't have to like it or watch it. But suggesting there aren't fans of UConn women's basketball is a pretty erroneous and ignorant contention.

Not a big fan of women's basketball but I respect what UCONN has accomplished.

Someday Gino needs to go coach a more competitive level of basketball, i.e., any decent high school men's team.
