I like the way Timmy is going in the last 5 games, I know that it's a small sample but would be nice if he can keep up this numbers

16.4 points
13 rebounds
4 assists
3,8 blocks

he's ruling the defensive end lately

Let's compare old Tim Duncan to the highly touted and much younger Lebron James:

Minutes played in 27 games; 794 (James 1115) [note - James has played 30 games]

team points for; 1764 (2350)

individual points scored; 382 (729)
rebounds; 263 (195)
assists; 91 (216)
blocks; 58 (14)
steals; 22 (40)

sub total; 2580 (3544)

team points allowed; 1544 (2119)

individual missed field goals; 157 (279)
missed free throws; 26 (63)
turnovers; 52 (115)
fouls; 51 (61)

sub total; 1830 (2637)

net grand total; 2580 - 1830 = 750 (907)

net grand total per 48 minutes; +45.34 (39.05)

Duncan > James

I don't know if I agree with the caveats placed on "the best" claims.

Tim is one of the best in the game regardless of those stats. We know that because we've watched him since his college days, and the fact that he has 4 rings and multiple trophies that say MVP on them.

That aside, there are far too many creative ways to push a point to into the light, using statistics. We could probably find a way to show that Ime is the best, if we only use certain stats.

Obviously PER is a big deal, but when a player gets 20 minutes (or whatever) a game, he's going to have more energy than if he gets 40 minutes a game. That doesn't mean his results are the best, because it's a 48 minute game.

Let's say Blair had these stats while he was on the floor, but he fouls out by halftime in most games. I wouldn't say he's the best in the game based on his playing time stats. I would say he has good results while he's playing, but being on the floor and not picking up fouls is part of being a good player.

Anyhow, who needs stats to show Tim Duncan is one of the best in the game?

You've been duped by the media, and are under the evil "King James" spell.

each foul counts as a negative one in the system. If Blair fouled out by halftime, he would be docked 6 points just for the fouls in less than 24 minutes.

Also, an offensive foul is also a turnover, so that docks you another point.

A defensive foul usually leads to free throws for the other team, so that is more docked points.

If you were any further from getting it, you would be getting it from the other end.

I've never been an EL BJ fan. I didn't like him when he was in Cleveland, don't like him now. Try harder.

What system? Are you Hollinger's bastard stepchild or what?

When you say a defensive foul usually leads to FTs for the other team, how do you know this? Are you using the "more than half the time" rule when you say "usually"?

those numbers compared to LBJ don't tell the whole story.

LBJ doesn't like playing more than 40+ minutes and cries when he gets tired.

If he were to play 33 minutes game, he would undoubtedly be the GOAT per 48.
