View Full Version : Overrating Bonner's offensive potential

Everyone knows, he's a liability half the time on the defensive end and his rebounding is terrible but the excuse it that he always brings 3 point shooting and stretched defenses. I think his offensive potential is not very good either. Its just not that impressive. He'll make lots of 3's , but quite honestly their far in between and I just ratchet a great 3 point shooting night from Bonner as a fluke.

not a good idea for a new thread then, is it?

His career true shooting % is 58. That's like having another bruising big pounding in the paint AND simultaneously spacing the floor.

Not sure there are many people overrating his offensive potential. Most understand that hes a shooter and nothing else. No one here expects him to be a penetrater or a post presence.

Actually, SpursDynasty85 has been whining about Bonner all season. I think Bonner turned down an autograph request from him.

I have.

I understand most spur's fans hate and complain about Bonner like me. but I wanna see if anyone here really thinks his offensive potential is really that impressive.

Whenever I see Bonner making 3's it really is a fluke to me and I never get that excited.

Bonner is a shooter, nothing more. But when he isn't making his shots, what good is he? I mean I can't think of anything else that he's good at or brings to the table.
You'd think because of his size that he'd be a decent rebounder, but that's not the case.
If Bonner is getting close to 30 minutes in the playoffs, he'll fold under pressure like he has in the past 2 playoffs.

Unfortunately you can't fully but the blame on him especially when it's Pop that puts him in that situation.
I get that now but it irks the hell out of spurs fans, including me.

Bonner makinf 3's isn't a fluke its his one actual nba skill, Bonner getting a rebound is a fluke. Bonner making a pull up shot or a lay-up after going by someone closing out hard isa fluke. Bonner making an open 3 is actually the way things are supposed to work. Bonner getting a defensive stop...... Thats a miracle and a sign that got bless the spurs.

Matt was having a hard time out there while the defenders actually guarded him. He operates best while roaming freely, as if he has a cloak of invisibility. Teams have scouted him enough to know he's a liability if he's covered. He came in, hit a three and doinked a few free throws. It happens. Probably those shoes. Fortunately Pop yanked his ass back out.

Very good point. I think the reason I don't like it when Bonner makes three balls and also think its a fluke is because he will not be seeing these wide-open areas to shoot in the playoffs. He is so unimaginably open for a 3point specialist it is ridiculous. I congratulate the spurs for getting Bonner open and dishing him the rock. Korver and Miller on the other hand have to work really hard to find their 3 pointers, yet they still drain a good percentage of them. Bonner will hit 1-20 on contested 3 pointers.

bonner is a liability when the defender dares him to dribble

That's what I've been saying for two years now. Bottom Line: In post season, his play has been awful.

The Spurs are 15-0 when Bonner scores at least six points.
