We've seen this story before and its not been a happy ending.

Spurs are shooting over 40% from beyond the 3-point arc. Fantastic shooting. It's fun to watch.

But it just doesn't win in the playoffs.

Ask the Phoenix Suns the last few years or the Sacramento Kings before that, and especially the 1997-1998 Seattle Supersonics.

All this teams were fantastic from the 3-point arc. Unfortunately all three of these teams suffered in the playoffs.

Good luck :toast

P.S. The Alamo Dome is still empty except for the Alamo Bowl.

Yea but Phoenix and Sacramento couldn't play defense.

No doubt. Spurs will be making a deep run, but will they be strong enough in the paint to win the title. They have a good chance to be honest. They would be the first of their kind to win a championship.

That's not true. They tried small ball last year and it was doing ok until they ran into a team who did it better.

Their best lineup usually has Jefferson at the 4 with three guards.

If 3point shooters are given open shots, they have to take them. They do not live and die by the 3 as much as the old Mavericks teams. They have a gameplan to get wide-open 3's off solid pick&rolls, but ultimately they take what the defense gives them. It's more proper to say, opposing teams live and die by giving the spurs open jump shots.

You have to admit this Spurs team is much less dependent on the 3 with parker, gino, and hills ability to drive. Not to mention we have more depth in our frontcourt. The only slasher the suns had was dragic and barbosa.

The Alamodome is a domed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domed) 65,000 seat, multi-purpose facility that is primarily used as a football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football)/basketball stadium and convention center in San Antonio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Antonio,_Texas), Texas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas), U.S. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) The facility opened on May 15, 1993, at a cost of $186 million.
Along with placating the San Antonio Spurs ownership's demands for a larger basketball venue, the multi-purpose facility was intended to increase the city's convention traffic and attract a professional football franchise. The Spurs played basketball in the Alamodome for a decade, then became disenchanted with the facility and convinced Bexar County (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bexar_County,_Texas) to construct them at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition Inc. a new arena now called the AT&T Center (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT%26T_Center).

[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alamodome&action=edit&section=5)] Alamo Bowl

The Alamodome is the site of the annual Alamo Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamo_Bowl), which usually matches the fourth-choice (not necessarily fourth-place) teams from the Big Ten Conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Ten_Conference) and the Big 12 Conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_12_Conference). The 2006 Alamo Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Alamo_Bowl) between the Texas Longhorns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Texas_Longhorn_football_team) and the Iowa Hawkeyes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Iowa_Hawkeyes_football_team) was attended by 65,875, which set a facility-record crowd for a sporting event,[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-2006_alamobowl-3)[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-Texas_survives-4)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-Alamo_Crowd_record-5) only to have that record broken by an Alamo Bowl event the next year between Texas A&M (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_A%26M_University) and Penn State (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penn_State), which drew 66,166 attendees.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-AB2007-6)
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alamodome&action=edit&section=6)] Canadian Football League

The Alamodome was also home to the San Antonio Texans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Antonio_Texans) for the 1995 CFL season (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_CFL_season). The stadium was attractive to the Canadian Football League (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Football_League) (which made an ill-fated attempt to expand to the U.S. between 1993 and 1995) since it could accommodate the CFL's larger playing field. In the first CFL playoff game ever played between two U.S.-based franchises, the Texans defeated the Birmingham Barracudas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_Barracudas) 52–9 at the Alamodome on November 5, The team then lost to the Baltimore Stallions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_Stallions) 21–11 in Baltimore on November 11. The Texans folded after the 1995 season due to low attendance, financial problems, and the disbanding of the other U.S. teams.
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alamodome&action=edit&section=7)] Corps Classic

September 16, 2006, marked the first game in a college football "home and home" series, known as the AT&T Corps Classic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT%26T_Corps_Classic), between the Texas A&M Aggies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Aggie_Athletics) and the Army Black Knights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Black_Knights_football). Army has elected to play its "home" game at the Alamodome in order to increase the program's exposure around the nation, as it competes as an independent. A sell-out crowd of 64,583 watched the Aggies defeat the Black Knights 28–24.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-2006guide-0) The second game was played at Kyle Field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Field) in College Station (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_Station,_Texas) in 2008.
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alamodome&action=edit&section=8)] East-West Shrine Game

The 2006 East-West Shrine Game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East-West_Shrine_Game) was played in the Alamodome on January 21, 2006. The game is an annual post-season college football all-star game. For most of its history, the game has been played in the San Francisco Bay Area (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Bay_Area), at San Francisco's Kezar Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kezar_Stadium) and at Stanford Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_Stadium). In recent years it has been played at AT&T Park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT%26T_Park). In 2006, the game was played in the Alamodome, moving out of the San Francisco area for the first time in decades. The Shrine Game was moved once again for its 2007 event, to Robertson Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robertson_Stadium) in Houston, Texas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston,_Texas).
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alamodome&action=edit&section=9)] National Football League

The Alamodome has played host to six NFL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League) preseason games. Two each were played in 1993 and 1994, one in 1995, and one in 2001.

August 7, 1993 – Houston Oilers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_Titans) (28) vs. New Orleans Saints (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Orleans_Saints) (37) – Attendance: 40,308
August 21, 1993 – Dallas Cowboys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_Cowboys) (20) vs. Houston Oilers (23) – Attendance: 63,285
August 6, 1994 – Houston Oilers (31) vs. San Diego Chargers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego_Chargers) (3) – Attendance: 29,815
August 20, 1994 – Buffalo Bills (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Bills) (18) vs. Houston Oilers (16) – Attendance: 40,504
August 26, 1995 – Dallas Cowboys (10) vs. Houston Oilers (0) – Attendance: 52,512
August 11, 2001 – Minnesota Vikings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Vikings) (28) vs. New Orleans Saints (21) – Attendance: 46,752

In 2005, the NFL announced that the Alamodome would host three of the New Orleans Saints (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Orleans_Saints) regular season "home" games due to the damage caused to the Louisiana Superdome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisiana_Superdome) by Hurricane Katrina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Katrina). The Saints played the Buffalo Bills (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Bills) (week 4), the Atlanta Falcons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_Falcons) (week 6), and the Detroit Lions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Lions) (week 16) at the Alamodome. Although there have been many NFL preseason and exhibition games held in San Antonio over the years, these games were the first NFL regular season games played in the city. The Saints also played one 2005 season "home" game in Giants Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giants_Stadium) (against the New York Giants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Giants)) in East Rutherford, New Jersey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Rutherford,_New_Jersey), and four others in LSU (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisiana_State_University)'s Tiger Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Stadium_%28LSU%29) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baton_Rouge,_Louisiana). Overall, the Saints averaged 62,665 fans in the 65,000-seat Alamodome for the three games held there, a solid showing despite the short notice to sell tickets due to the hurricane. The Saints and the NFL announced that the team would return to Louisiana for the 2006 season even though at the time the NFL was uncertain where they would play their home games. Additionally, former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Tagliabue) indicated that if the NFL expands again, San Antonio would be on the short list of candidate cities. Even though public opinion is that he would never let go of his team's presence in the San Antonio market, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has acknowledged his support for the city's efforts to become home to an NFL franchise.[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-7)

October 2, 2005 – Buffalo Bills (7) vs. New Orleans Saints (19) – Attendance: 58,688[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-8)
October 16, 2005 – Atlanta Falcons (34) vs. New Orleans Saints (31) – Attendance: 65,562 (attendance set the facility record for a sporting event at the time; it has been subsequently surpassed by two Alamo Bowl events)[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-9)
December 24, 2005 – Detroit Lions (13) vs. New Orleans Saints (12) – Attendance: 63,747[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-10)

The Dallas Cowboys held their 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2009 preseason training camps at the Alamodome, and will continue to do so through 2011.
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alamodome&action=edit&section=10)] Texas Football Classic

Since 1999, the Alamodome has been home to the Texas Football Classic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Football_Classic), which kicks off the high school football season in Texas. Now in its twelfth year, the event has expanded to five games, featuring prominent high school programs from across the state.[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-11) Former participants include former Chicago Bears (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Bears) and University of Texas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Longhorns_football) running back Cedric Benson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cedric_Benson), University of Iowa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_Hawkeyes_football) quarterback Drew Tate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drew_Tate), University of Houston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Houston) quarterback Kevin Kolb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Kolb), and University of Missouri (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missouri_Tigers) quarterback Chase Daniel.
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alamodome&action=edit&section=11)] U.S. Army All-American Bowl

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is played each January. The bowl game features the nation's top 80 high school football players in an East vs. West match-up and is televised by NBC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBC_Sports). Past games have included players like Reggie Bush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggie_Bush), Vince Young (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_Young), Adrian Peterson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_L._Peterson), Brady Quinn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Quinn),[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-12) and Tim Tebow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Tebow). The inaugural game was played on December 30, 2000, at Highlander Stadium at Highland Park High School (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_Park_High_School_%28University_Park,_Texa s%29) in Dallas, Texas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas,_Texas).[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-13) The bowl game was then moved to San Antonio, where the 2002 match was played in front of an Alamo Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamo_Stadium) crowd.[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamodome#cite_note-14) The 2003 game was moved to the Alamodome, where it has been played since.

If you're going to attempt to downplay the Spurs, at least know what you're talking about.

Jefferson only plays the four now when the match-ups dictate it. They Spurs can finish with a variety of different lineups and go eleven deep with rotation caliber players when healthy.

I keep hearing about the "reliance on the three", but do yourself a favor and go look at the team stats. This team is good-great in a lot of categories. They're a balanced team.

As for the defense, come the playoffs expect McDyess to be starting and (hopefully) Splitter to be in the rotation, with Blair being dropped from the rotation. All of a sudden they go from an already fairly good defensive team (they've been 7-9 in efficiency pretty much the entire season) to potentially a very good defensive team.

Hate it or love it, the Spurs are on top and they ain't going nowhere.

theyve always relied on the 3. they will eventually have to come back to earth but they will still shoot an above average percentage. their issue will be health. they have shockingly been healthy. only 2 teams have started the same starting 5 all season. spurs and lakers. and we all know the lakers true starter is bynum so its basically been the spurs with amazing health. can it last???

Pleaaasseee, Hornet fan, stop worrying about the Spurs. If I were you, I would reminisce your team's 8-0 start and figure out what happened since.

Oh, don't forget to give more love to the Hornets because by next year, your beloved team will either be in Anaheim or Las Vegas.

We've seen this story before and its not been a happy ending.

Spurs are shooting over 40% from beyond the 3-point arc. Fantastic shooting. It's fun to watch.

But it just doesn't win in the playoffs.

You're right, just look at how the 03, 05, and 07 Spurs teams didn't win in the playoffs relying on the inside out game and lots of shooters.

Your right. We will play BETTER.

Jim Dunan had 9 points and 9 boards last night, and sat most of the fourth due to being gas'd. The only time they did give it to him, he traveled. The bum is washed up.

I gotta tell ya, it feels good having the best record in the league while your best player gets rest. Damn good.
