simple poll, who's the best as of the end of 2010?

i'm including the top 4 teams in each conference, so take your pick, and explain why if you want.

i'm taking dallas right now, but if the spurs can win in dallas this week it would probably swing my opinion, maybe.

they have had the most impressive run so far, knocking off every major contender they have faced.

Mavs

Mavs. Wins over boston, heat, and spurs, the teams I would pick as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best teams respectively. Two wins over the heat in fact.

i think if you put the mavs first, the spurs have got to be at the very worst, a very close second.

so close in fact the with a win this week (spurs win) i'd have to put them as 1st, and the mavs 2nd.

followed by celtics, then heat. (due to their head to head meetings.)

the spurs (thanx in large part to the mavs beating all the front runners) are probably the best team i can remember in quite a while at kinda running under the radar.

I say the Celtics when they get healthy. Mavs look good too though.

I went with Dallas. Very hard to go against the C's, though. They still scare me more than any other team.

true. i havent even really mentioned the celts, which is not to say they are not right there with the spurs and mavs.

its so close between the spurs, mavs, and celts, that one could make a legitimate case for any one of the three.

the fact that there are a good number of really tough ones makes for a really interesting season.

hopefully the lakers will get it together soon and join the mix.

I think it's clearly Dallas and Boston. Apart from LA, SA has probably had the easiest schedule for any contending team. Though, good on them for winning these cupcakes, and seemingly winning all of their close games.

IMO the Celtics and Mavericks are the best, with Spurs barely trailing.

Why is atlanta on here?

ya, i think orlando is a better team, but i just went with the top4 seeds in each conference as they stand today.

i figured it really wouldnt matter since the thread is "who is best",,,, and they dont really stand as that "contender team",,,,,,, at least right now.

could that change? yes, and i expect they will get better, and climb in the standings, but not yet.

i know they beat the spurs, but there are circumstances that i think must be considered.

the spurs were on the 2 night of a b2b.
add to that that they were on the road
add to that that they had played 5 games in 7 nights leading up to that
add to that that several of those 5 games in 7 nights were close games that the spurs had to fight for.

not taking anything away from orlando, they won the game, and i think they will get better as the season wears on and arenas finds his spots.

they probably should have been in the poll, but at this point they aint gonna win the voting so ,,,,,,, you know, fuck it.

Why not just have the poll say "which team do you like?"

That's how the votes go.

Mavs/Celts > Spurs > Heat

Spurs NO WHERE near 1st until they can play more than 1qtr of good defense.

Surprised the mavs are number 1. I'll take it but I don't expect them to win a world championship. I expect the Lakers to get it together. They need Bynum in the starting lineup though as Gasol is getting beat up physically at center.

Uh it's called disappointment over many years of high expectations. Playoffs are always a big difference from the regular season.

maybe thats how yours went, and if you like the spurs, i wouldnt say its a wrong vote. (you know, with that whole best record in the league thing you guys have going?)

i however did not vote for the team i like. i voted for the mavs, as did quite a few that im pretty sure does not like them.

:rollinputting the spurs 3rd with the best record in the league. i suppose thats the price you pay for winning 4 titles in 10 yrs. (high expectations)

i voted mavs, but i could have voted spurs and not really had a second guess about it. there is no way i could put the celtics above the spurs at this point. maybe later if the spurs stumble, but not right now.

it really should be,,,,, best record=best team.

i voted mavs just because of the elites they have beaten, but if the spurs win thursday then it clearly has to go to the spurs.

They know how to turn it on. The Lakers and Celtics tend to be bored in the regular season. I just find it funny every year that people make so much out of the regular season. The Lakers are still the champions until someone dethrones them. They are probably tired right now. I've seen many great teams really look out of sorts in the regular season at times. It's a bad habit but they usually find a way out of it. Just saying it's a long season and to expect the Lakers or any team to be at their best all year long is too much to ask for. Peaking in April/May/June is the key.

I don't know if you're being serious or not(talking to u4lakers), but the Celtics are like 1 or 2 games back of the Spurs, and they've played a much tougher schedule..

ya, i was serious.

you might be right, but still if i had to pick one over the other it would be spurs over celts.

no disrespect intended, but your team is better.

1. Mavs
2. Spurs
3. Lakers
4. Jazz

1. Celtics
2. Heat
3. Magic
4. Bulls

Those would be my overall ranking.. although the Lakers would beat the Spurs in the playoffs.. its hard to put them above with the way they have played.

Best team is probably Boston with Mavs close second.

Ill say the C's for now, Mavs a close 2nd, Spurs an even closer 3rd. We will know exactly who is the best in just a few days....Spurs/Lakers, Spurs/Mavs, Spurs/Celtics will tell us exactly who is the best team RIGHT NOW.

Saying Dallas is the best in the league is like saying Robbie McEwen is the leader in the Tour de France before the mountain stages. You know he's not going to be in yellow at the end, just like Dallas will not hold up a Finals trophy.

However, when it's Contador or Lance or one of those guys, you raise an eyebrow and realize it's significant for this guy to be ahead at this point with the mountains still ahead.

When the Lakers are ahead in the West, you know it's sewn up pretty much, same for SA to a point, but Dallas has shown time and again that their regular season play does not translate to post season wins.

All the people picking the spurs is just blatant homerism. Honestly, the way the Mavs has played and the opponents they have beaten should easily put them above the Spurs *right now*. None of that "they'll choke in the playoffs" bullshit. If they're the better team right now they're the better team. Doesn't matter if they suck cock later in the year.
