Hey guys,

I recently applied to grad school and got 3 recommendations from some great ex-managers of mine. I want to send them all some thank you packages but am having trouble finding good, inexpensive, yet thoughtful ones. Any ideas?

I've checked out ftd.com and so far the finalist is:

http://www.ftd.com/thank-you-pcg/sweets-in-bloom-thank-you-tin-with-hersheys-chocolates/occasion-thankyou/ct85/

but it's kinda of expensive for what you get methinks. ANd chocolate doesn't seem that thoughtful. Btw I'm giving to two guys and a girl.

Candy is fine. Does that price include shipping? If not you could probably put it all together yourself for a bit less. I think for that kind of thank you, anything edible (candy, cookies, coffee, etc) is appropriate.

Haha isn't it funny, when I was a kid I thought it was so LAME when someone gave my parents a nut tray or a cheese wheel for Christmas; now I'm crossing my fingers ,"oh please, please let it be a cheese wheel!" :lol

Yeah, for kicks I went through the order process on ftd and it didn't include shipping (cheapest was January 11th arrival for ~$15, and ~$30 for the gift. So Basically for the 3 peeps it would be hella money (~$135 with shipping) for 3 boxes of candy. But it is probably presented nicer than I can think of, so I guess you also pay for that and the cool little note it probably comes with. I'll think about it since they did write letters on my behalf.

...so I guess $135 for 3 sets of candy isn't that off target then. Candy or nuts...

I would suggest a well-worded note of thanks means more than anything.

That's what I did with my reccomenders. I didn't bother sending them anything, just a thoughtful thank you note will last longer than some nuts or cheese wheel.

Godiva chocolate would be the way I'd go, but CC's nuts suggestion is a great idea too. Tough to beat a big bag of pistachios, cashews, or pecans.

a beer class with a pewter medallion and their first name engraved on it should cost about the same, and will be better (at least for the guys).

21.00 before shipping.

I guess it just depends on the type of relationship you have with these professors. If it is really professional, then I would say this is probably not a good idea. I do know that the profs that I had write my recommendations were ones I would joke with too. In this case it is a perfect gift.

:tu I wouldn't dream of sending anything more than a well written thank you note.
