Son of former Mavericks player Nick Van Exel charged with murder

The son of a former Dallas Mavericks (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Dallas_Mavericks) player has been charged with capital murder in connection with the slaying of his neighbor, Dallas police (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Dallas_Police_Department) said.
Nickey Van Exel, 20, son of former Mavericks guard Nick Van Exel (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Nick_Van_Exel), was arrested Wednesday night and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Bradley Bassey Eyo was found shot to death near Lake Ray Hubbard on Sunday. Investigators learned Eyo had been killed at a home in the 6900 block of George Brown (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/George_Brown) Drive in Garland (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Garland%2C_Texas) and his body later dumped less than a mile away at the lake. Dallas and Garland police worked together on the investigation.
Police said Nickey Van Exel turned himself in Wednesday.
Nickey Van Exel's father, Nick Van Exel, played for the Dallas Mavericks from 2001-2003.

It's ok, guys. They were just engaged in a little "horseplay" with the shotgun. Then he dumped the body and weapon into a lake because he "paniced". The important thing is that this was an "accident". Glad we could put that one to rest.

2nd degree murder at worst, dude didn't mean to kill it looked more like an accident. if he wanted someone dead he could have had it done by triggas. the plutocrats don't need to do such stuffs themselves.

News stories say he's charged with capital murder, which is murder committed while in the act of another felony. Typically there's some information that something else was going on if the DA's going to make a charge like that. What the defendant's attorney tells the media has little to do with the information that's actually used to determine charges.

Dallas police Deputy Chief Craig Miller said the capital murder charge against Van Exel could be lowered to manslaughter

uh...then why the fuck would you charge him with capital murder? Dumbfuck police don't know what the hell they're doing as usual.

He moved the body of the man he shot, and it turns out some items of the deceased were missing. That's why he was charged with capital murder.

That's possible. Maybe I'm wrong on the terminology too. I thought Texas required the murder to be committed in the act of another felony. Maybe it just means they're reserving the right to put him on death row.

Now you got it.

It can be a homicide while in the act of another crime (burglary, arson, etc...[which is why I thought they brought the charge on him]), but generally it means an act of murder in which one can be capitally punished.
