FiOS/TiVo

Hello geeks. I'm hoping that among you we have a few home network experts that can help me with something...

I have a Tivo HD in my living room and just added a FiOS DVR in another room (opting not to pay for an additional TiVo on top of my FiOS subscription). Does anyone know if/how I can connect the two DVRs over my home wifi, for example, to watch programs on one DVR that were recorded on the other? Not sure if this is possible.

I don't believe that's possible. Unless both DVR's were made by the same company.

I don't think it's possible even if they are made by the same company. Most providers I've encountered charge a premium for the ability to watch recorded programs in all/several rooms.

Figured as much but worth a shot in the dark. Since I can share folders on my network with my TiVo I thought there was a chance the TiVo might be able to access the FiOS DVR in some way.

I did a lot of Googling though and it sounds like it's not an option.

not so with uverse. all apart of your bill and you get up to 4 boxes, not including an hd/dvr box. they would have the capability if they were made by the same company cuz they'd be dealing with the same OS/protocol/format/what-have-you. Easy file sharing.

That's Uverse, though. Every cable company I've talked to in the last few moves has required special equipment and installation in order to share a dedicated DVR tuner. Uverse doesn't charge a premium for it, but they sure as hell use the DVR sharing as a selling point.

i would assume verizon does the same with FiOS in regards to the dvr sharing.

That's what I understand, but if I swapped my TiVo for a 2nd FiOS DVR, I'd lose the ability to stream videos from my Mac to the DVR (as far as I know) which is a deal-breaker.
