63-19 the Spurs have a tougher schedule ahead with lots of road games and will have a short period of some injuries again but will be healthy come the POs, and narrowly win the top seed in the West (over the Mavs who will survive injuries and win 61 games, LAL will win 58) and will battle Miami and Boston for the top seed overall but hang onto that as well. It is hard for any team to win 64 or more games and while the Spurs can (and still may) do it, Pop is more concerned about minutes and health.

63-19 with HCA throughout playoffs.....spurs can be dangerous at home with HCA throughout playoffs...

Going 36-13 the rest of the way would still be quite a dominant feat. Has anyone taken a good look at that February schedule!??!?!? Yikes.

Yeah yeah, its the rodeo road trip, but it's an extra long one this year. 9 games, including 3 back to backs :wow

Overall it's 12 out of 13 on the road. And after that, they have almost a week off before they play again at home. WTF is that all about?

All star game?

It's good that this year's rodeo starts and finishes before the all star game and is not separated by it like in the last couple of years. I'm pretty sure Pop hated it having a few games on the road, then the all star break and then the rodeo road trip continuing for a few more games. No distractions this year.

Spurs will lose at least 3 games in the rodeo trip, and the rest will come from January back to backs and March/April tank games.

To win 50 games, the Spurs have to go 21-28 the rest of the way (.429, a 35 win pace over 82 games).

To win 53 games -- roughly, the average number of wins in the last 6 years to earn HCA in Round 1 -- the Spurs have to go 24-25 (.490, a 40 win pace over 82 games).

To win 55 games, the Spurs have to go 26-23 (.531, a 44 win pace over 82)

To win 60 games, the Spurs have to go 31-18 (.633, a 52 win pace over 82)

To win 62 games -- roughly, the average number of wins needed over the last 6 years to have HCA in the West throughout the playoffs -- the Spurs have to go 33-16 (.673, a 55 win pace over 82)

To win 65 games, the Spurs have to go 36-13 (.735, a 60 win pace over 82)

To win 67 games -- the high water mark for Western Conference teams over the last 6 years -- the Spurs have to go 38-11 (.776, a 63 win pace over 82).

Spurs record over the final 49 games:

07-08 33-16
08-09 32-17
09-10 29-20

I'll go with 62-20. Good enough for the number one seed in the West. Miami will finish the best record in the league.

Great breakdown, FWD. For as much as our record is stellar, few of us think that pace can/will be maintained.

But it's still interesting to see the breakdown; because 62 games (requiring 33-16 record) would mean 4x as many losses in the remaining 2/3-1/2 the season. Put that way, it seems sort of ludicrous to think they'll drop many more than that.

Realisitically, for me, gut feeling (comprised of schedule, early wins, potential for injuries, etc), I think they end up at 60-62 wins.

and to win 73? :wow

44-5; .898 the rest of the way (74 win pace). That would actually require that the Spurs play better than they already have. Though they'll never reach it, their current pace is a 72 win pace (72.06 to be precise), which is .879 winning percentage.

I see us finishing 65-17 or 66-16. #1 seed overall.

our record could be better if we can hold onto out leads when ending each quarter....

the last 3 losses should be 3 wins had pop subbed properly....

Hollinger (http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=PERDiem-110104) says they'll go 33-16 from here on -- if he's right (and he seems to think that the Spurs have been almost as lucky so far as they've been good) that's 62 wins.

To get to 62 wins, here's what the rest of the top 8 in the West would have to do from here:

DAL -- 37-12 (.755)
UTH -- 38-9 (.809)
LAL -- 39-9 (.813)
OKC -- 39-8 (.830)
DEN -- 42-7 (.857)
NOH -- 41-6 (.872)
PRT -- 44-4 (.917)
