View Full Version : Is the 2 seed in the playoffs more attractive?

The three division winners get the top three seeds regardless of record. The 2nd place team in the southwest will most likely be the 4 or 5 seed which as things stand now means the Spurs road goes through both Dallas and the Lakers. Would be nice if the reward for the conferences' best record was a Laker-Mavs matchup in the semis.

Wrong.

As things stand, the 2nd place team in the Southwest has a very good chance to be the #2 seed.

It's way to early for that. Even trying to do this in the last game of the seasons is hard. You win as much as you can and let the other teams fall into place on their own.

See this thread (on the first page) for playoff seeding rules:

Yeah, rules changed. Anyway, tbh, I'd prefer Lakers and then Dallas, rather than Utah and Dallas. If they're healthy, of course.

Hasn't been the case since 2006. The three division winners have to be in the top 4 seeds, that's all. The 1 seed is likely to play only one of LA and DAL.

The only way being #2 is better than #1 is if the Lakers are #4, and being #2 allows Dallas the 1 seed.

Wong, Division winners are granted one of the top 4th seeds, if any team with a better record stands a chance at the 2nd seed, they will get it and the other 2 division winners get the 3rd and 4th seeds.

Captain Renault: What in heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?
Rick: My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
Captain Renault: The waters? What waters? We're in the desert.
Rick: I was misinformed.

No...

1st is always best. HCA is better than any matchup. If you cannot beat any team in the playoffs with HCA, you don't deserve to be there.
