Surprised no one has mentioned this. Wall Street Journal has reported that Verizon will announce on 1/11 that they will be selling the iPhone 4.

I still don't see myself jumping on the smartphone train any time soon, but the HTC Thunderbolt and the LG Revolution are more intriguing to me at this point than the iPhone.

I posted that it would happen and everyone jumped on me saying it was a rumor. So much for that. But with Verizon getting it, a jailbreak will come out allowing Sprint users to get one.
It still is a rumor. It's got the be the longest fucking rumor in the history of rumors.

2/3 possible release date. And I think Chinese Democracy took longer to come to fruition, tbh.

sadly the thunderbolt doesnt even have a dual core processor. instant fail.
i guess verizon's network will go to shit now. even if i wanted to upgrade early verizon wont let me, they now require 20 months into your contract to upgrade early.

About time, tbh. I hope it boost our sales.
We're already thinking of writing an Android version of our flagship product.

The ones that pay our bills. :D
I think it's pretty obvious ElNono works for or owns a company that writes application(s) for iOS. He's also looking forward to a greater install base and possibly more income that a Verizon iPhone would provide.
Why are you only thinking of writing an Android version?

Yes. I just don't want to mention names just so I'm not as easily identifiable, that's all. I do my good share of trolling around these places. :D
Why are you only thinking of writing an Android version?
We've had requests from people that moved to Android to port over our flagship app. It's been hard to justify because it would involve a full rewrite, plus we sell specific modules as in-App purchases, which the Android market doesn't support. But with Android making leaps and bounds in market share, it might force our hand.

My contract is up with Verizon so hopefully I'll upgrade to this but I hear there's a new iPhone 5 coming out later this year so what's the point? Is this phone even going to have LTE? Guess my questions will be answered tomorrow (or maybe not).

It's gonna be interesting to see, because if it's CDMA, then it will miss some features, like using the net while in a conversation. Plus EVDO is slower than HSPA...
It would be great if the phone instead uses the new 4G LTE network VZW announced during the CES.

no shot. i beleive this will be the first of many delays for verizon. when the iphone 5 is out verizon wont get it for another 5 months. apple is also hesistant to adopt early in new tech. they didnt go 3g the first time out they went edge.

I already find it strange that Verizon is announcing this and not Apple (MacWorld is in 2 weeks). So we'll see. I heard phones would be available starting tomorrow, so that points to CDMA.
Wouldn't surprise me if Jobs introduces the iPad 2 and they have a CDMA model too.

I would think so. I don't think CDMA has a sim-card equivalent. Plus I think the only other carrier using CDMA is Sprint, and you're probably better off with one of their 4G plans and phones.

11:10AM "We're incredibly pleased to give Verizon's customers the choice we've been waiting for. We've designed an iPhone 4 which connects to the CDMA network -- and it has all the features that you'd expect. Like FaceTime. Features like Apple's stunning Retina Display."
Well that sucks. It's a CDMA phone. :depressed

Question from Ars Technica: what happens when you're on a call and need to use data?
Dan: Same as a CDMA device.
So... you don't.
Me: Greaaaaaaaaat.
----------------------------
Q: Why didn't you go the LTE route?
Tim: Two reasons -- the first gen LTW chipsets force design changes we wouldn't make. And Verizon customers told us they want the iPhone now. I can't tell you the number of times we've been asked 'when will it work on Verizon.'

Which is what I've said all along about CDMA. I've had to look up emails, maps and other things while on a phone call. Nice not to have to say, "Let me call you right back."
Also, if you ever travel to Europe, it's nice to have a working phone and not a $200 paperweight.

Actually, the Euro part is debatable if you actually ever tried to do that and find out how much AT&T charges you for using it overseas in general. Whenever I travel outside the US, I use the iPhone in wifi with Skype, where wifi is available, or simply borrow/buy a cheap ass cell with some minutes for local calls.
But yeah, CDMA is not cool.

Finding WIFI in europe is a bitch on top of it they love to charge out the ass for it too...

Still cheaper than what AT&T wants to charge you for international roaming... I think the few exceptions are canada and mexico...
But I know what you mean. With the Euro exchange rate and everything it can be costly if you want to use it in a train, or something like that.
Most decent hotels do offer complimentary wifi though.

Honestly visiting europe, i've yet to visit a hotel yet that didn't charge for wifi.

Verizon Sells Out of iPhone 4 Preorders (http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/02/04/verizon-sells-out-of-iphone-4-preorders/?hpw)
10:30 a.m. | Updated Included reports from Verizon customers that their iPhone orders have been processed and are shipping.
Despite getting off to a slightly bumpy start, Verizon sold all the iPhone 4s the company made available for current Verizon customers in less than a day.
Verizon said demand for the iPhone 4 surpassed all of its previous smartphone debuts, including high-profile phone releases like the Motorola Droid and Droid X.
“In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history,” said Dan Mead, the president and chief executive of Verizon Wireless, in a statement. “When you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story.”
The company did not offer specific sales figures, but Mr. Mead said the speedy sell-out sets “the pace for next week when we open up sales to everyone.”
Some customers are already reporting that they have received notifications from Verizon that their iPhone orders have been processed and will be shipping soon.
Apple and Verizon’s online shops show that the version of the iPhone 4 tailored to run on Verizon’s network is no longer available for order. Both Web sites urge customers who want to buy a Verizon iPhone to return at 3 a.m. on Feb. 9 to place an order. Apple and Verizon will also sell the iPhone in their retail locations, as well as at Best Buy and some Wal-Mart stores.
The Verizon iPhone has received largely positive reviews from multiple technology and gadget reviewers. David Pogue of The New York Times said “the Verizon iPhone is nearly the same as AT&T’s iPhone 4 — but it doesn’t drop calls,” a problem that has long frustrated many AT&T customers.
In addition, on Thursday Verizon released a new 30-second commercial that played up the company’s much-touted network strength. The commercial seems to take a swipe at AT&T’s beleaguered network, ending with a voiceover that says, “Yes, I can hear you now.”
