Nice. Well, college isn't anything like you think it is (in all likelihood).

Your nervousness is common.. every other student is feeling the exact same way as you.

You'll be fine.

tbh, there's no nervousness a little whiskey can't fix. 1) don't worry about shit back home, no family issues and no ex-gf. 2) don't feel pressure to titty-fuck every cute girl in your psych class, you'll only end up alone and drunk the first few weeks. Instead, get to be their friends and study with them. Eventually they will trust you and confide in you, then they'll feel lonely and want some company on a Thursday night when they don't feel like going out. 3) Visit your professors during office hours and act interested in the class, it'll give you a guranteed B- unless it's a math class. 4) Avoid math classes at all cost.

It's gonna happen one day, man. I was away at college, my freshman year, no car and my birthday was the second day of class. I knew nobody and I celebrated my birthday by myself at some horrible restaurant nearby campus. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Of course it got better and I ultimately stayed in the area.

True, unless you want a job with real earning potential. Seriously, it's real easy to get caught up in the social life when you first get there and end up blowing your first midterms. If you went to a public HS then almost any university is going to be a sizable step up in difficulty, so don't get behind on your reading lists and studying.

Some people are naturally inclined towards the maths and sciences, and others towards the english's and everything else. It's hard to learn (and truly advance) in those subjects if you weren't born with it. Imo it's like being born w/ natural athletic ability.

Math classes give homework.
Math classes lack any room for personal opinion and discussion.
Math classes are unpleasure for hot chicks, therefore if you meet a hot chick in a math class you will only remind her of an unpleasurable experience.

I could go on, but I know ya'll understand the importance of leaving math out of your curriculum. Unless you're good at it, then use it to make money. Otherwise it's a waste of time and pussy.

how mad are american unis, stay on campus

let me tell you something ur first year will always be ur best year when it comes to grades, cause u just wanna test urself with the subs and shit and usually put more effort into ur classes

2nd and 3rd year is when u get to comfortable and it really tests ur motivation whether ur keeping ur grades up and shit or just the type that takes it easy and cruise for passes only and then feel like dropping out....

Math classes give homework.

Non-math classes give reading, often in flowery 18th century language.

Math classes lack any room for personal opinion and discussion.

Not true. Only easy freshman classes with cookie-cutter solutions fit that description. Things like the Godel Incompleteness Theorem, the Axiom of Choice, the Banach-Tarski Paradox, the Continuum Hypothesis, infinity, constructivism, and so on make the picture a lot muddier than is usually acknowledged.

Math classes are unpleasure for hot chicks, therefore if you meet a hot chick in a math class you will only remind her of an unpleasurable experience.

You won't meet a hot chick in a math class, unless you're taking some easy shit like calc or have a fetish for skinny Asian women. Take art history electives and tell the girls you're majoring in EE to pull A-level strange.

No way; first year is the toughest because (1) you gotta take lots of shit you don't like and (2) the stuff you do like usually isn't that interesting in freshman level classes that are packaged for mass consumption.

tbh, just round up as many party contacts as possible. That's all I did the first 2 months my freshman year. The rec's a good place to meet people like that.

Also if you're a comm major like me (lol comm major) a lot of your freshman classes require you to work in groups and stuff like that so you should be able to meet people.

In all seriousness, if you're not a recluse or awkward, the social scene will take care of itself. As far as the actual school part, there's only 2 things you gotta do: Go to class, and do the readings. I don't know know about you but I never really considered "reading" as homework, and never took it seriously. String also gave you some good advice...meet with your professors during office hours at least once--preferably at the beginning of the semester--especially when you're in some of those large 101 intro classes. The professors will know your name and not look at you as just another face in the crowd.

It's cliche, but it really is the best time of your life, live it up...after that you get only a handful of good moments each year, but the rest is one problem after another

The Reckoning

dont date during college. bang as many 18 year olds as you can. then date when you graduate. make friends with people who have wealthy parents and get to know their parents. those are some of the best job opportunities. also, the alumni network can be key if you go to a large or prestigious school. if you see an older guy wearing your school apparel, strike up a convo. you'll never know what kind of info he/she could hold.

the most important thing you learn in college is how to respectively and confidently approach strangers. there's other ways to make buck when you get out of school than throwing your life away over differential equations.

also, every break you should have a group of buddies to rent a place in padre, colorado, etc. and enjoy the shit out of being young. it took me two+ years in college to figure out how much little time i really have left. live it up, and dont let a woman "claim" you. when you turn 21, live like youre 21.

do all you can to make good grades, though, but dont let it consume you. ive had several recurring nightmares because of it. also, study abroad even if its a maymester. you'll love it.

The Reckoning

well it all worked for me. touche on studying, though. my perspective is coming from someone who rolled on 4.0s every semester, but it took years off my life. however, if youre someone who's approachable, and you make a positive impression, you'll beat out any awkward academic recluse who has a higher gpa. take my advice with a grain of salt, as anything anybody tells you.

that's why im not posting as much anymore because ive used my free time to enjoy being in college instead of on a messageboard gang. studying is alot easier when you're not aimlessly lurking on the internet. ill say this last - student loans can be spent on more than tuition. good luck.

Lucky bastard, I'd love to be at UCF. I'm pretty much at the northern version, where it's tough to see too many dime pieces during most of the school year. But once winter ends and the nice spring weather moves in, apparently so do all of the bitches. They all magically appear, crowding the quads in their bikinis for some sun-bathing. Those times are optimal for letting the eyes wonder, since it's sunny, the girls tits and ass are poppin in slutty bathing suits, and I'm wearing shades cus it's sunny out, and they cannot see my eyes :king
