I am disappointed that the NBA looked at the letter of the rule and not the spirit of the rule. I admit I stepped on the court, and that I should have had some more restraint, but Tim Duncan did the same thing but just not in such an aggressive manner. The rules are the rules, and I abide by them, and in that same vein, I think it would be beneficial for the league then to have also taken a further look at Tim Duncan,
to be vehemently honest

The Lakers could have won in '99 if Shaq hadn't spent his downtime moonlighting as a competitive eater.

I somewhat agree of the asterisk in 99
also subscribe to the asterisks of 95, 02 and 09

good point lefty, let's revisit the past * champions of the last 2 decades:
89 *Pistons (Magic out)
94 *Rockets (jordan out)
95 *Rockets (jordan out)
99 *Spurs (short season)
02 *Lakers (cheating in kings series)
09 *Lakers (Garnett out)

To be fair, I think the 94 Rockets would have beaten the Bulls (with Jordan)
They destroyed them twice during the 92-93 season; they couldnt handle Hakeem, Maxwell for some reason always played well against Jordan, Horry matched up well vs Pippen, and the PF and PG positions were pretty equal

On June 10, 2008, Donaghy's attorney filed a court document alleging, among other things, that Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings was fixed by two referees. The letter states that Donaghy "learned from Referee A that Referees A and F wanted to extend the series to seven games. Tim knew Referees A and F to be 'company men', always acting in the interest of the NBA, and that night, it was in the NBA's interest to add another game to the series."[39] The Lakers won Game 6, attempting 18 more free throws than the Kings in the fourth quarter, and went on to win the 2002 NBA Finals. The teams were not named, but the Western Conference Finals was the only seven-game series that year.[40] The document claimed that Donaghy told federal agents that to increase television ratings and ticket sales, "top executives of the NBA sought to manipulate games using referees".[39] It also said that NBA officials would tell referees to not call technical fouls on certain players, and states that a referee was privately reprimanded by the league for ejecting a star player in the first quarter of a January 2000 game.[39]

ewing was out
haha, and in '09 the Lakers faced:
the utah jazz with injured players
BARELY got past the houston rockets minus their top 2 scorers and missing BOTH their centers LOL
then faced the Denver Nuggets (nothing else need be said)
THEN faced a noobie Orlando Magic team in the Finals who were only there cause Garnett was injured for Boston
also, Stoudamire was injured for the Suns
Ginobili was out for the Spurs
2009 was the Year of the Injuries...
EVERY MAJOR TEAM had significant injury issues going into the playoffs EXCEPT the Lakers.
2009* deserves an asterisk more than any other year

You play the games on your schedule, nothing else you can do. If you win, you're the champ. Simple as that.

Agree with this. The * idea is nothing more than Phil Jackson mindfucking everyone.
He's probably laughing his ass off when people talk about his * idea so seriously.
There's nothing you can do when a team that you're facing has injured players. Also, the lockout season is something that cannot be prevented.

Amare didn't have to be suspended.
If Duncan wasn't so protected by Stern, he would have suffered the same fate.

All the asterisk means to me is:
*The Spurs swept the Lakers and closed down the Great Western Forum.
Amare didn't have to be suspended.

Last I checked, the Spurs weren't the ones that got Gasol for a bag of chips.

Talk about butt hurt. Yes, Duncan stepped on the court. No, there was no altercation going on at the time. Phoenix took a hard foul on Elson, who simply got up and trotted down the court. No rules violated. If Bell wasn't such a dumbass, there would have been no PHO suspensions, either. He had to go start something.
It ultimately didn't matter, though. Little bitches couldn't even extend the series down 3-2 on their court with SA minus Horry. There's no way they win a game 7 roadie from SA.
