View Full Version : Did the 2007 Spurs have the easiest path to a title ever?

DeadlyDynasty

3 of the 4 teams they played were complete garbage, and the other series was marred by a rigged Game 3 and shady ejections in Game 4.

The Warriors also took out Dallas, who would've steamrolled the Spurs.

I'm interested to see what your thoughts are.

Best player in the NBA goes down with an injury and his team then loses to the Suns in round one. With no Tim, Lakers no longer have to worry about being swept two years in a row.

No, you're completely right.

It went: 2005 = missed the playoffs entirely, 2006 = Kobe quit on game 7 against Phoenix, 2007 = steamrolled 4-1 by the Suns (the same Suns that went on to lose 4-2 the next series against the Spurs).

I got it. Thanks :tu

Haters gonna hate!

The Spurs were just that much better than everyone. Hell, LA had to steal Gasol in order to compete again. Boston had to aggregate their Big-3 just to compete. The Spurs were just too damn good for everyone. That's why they're officially the team of that decade, just ask NBA.com

You know cause it's the Spurs fault that the Mavs lost to the Warriors. Has nothing to do with the fact the Mavs are mentally weak and chokers against everyone but the Spurs.

that pretty much sums it up for the Lakers tries to get a championship without buying it. Then they had to resort to collusion, bribing rape juries, money laundering, funding riots in LA, conspiring with FBI to get referees that would not cooperate incarcerated etc, etc to get themselves back to relevancy.

and all that only got them 1 and 1/2 championships. Now, it's back to irrelevancy for them I'm afraid.

Won the title as a 3 seed. Beat a good Denver team. Beat a better Suns (4-1 vs the Lakers:wow) team and would have regardless of the suspensions. Beat a very good Sloan coached Jazz squad.

The only team that was a pushover was the Cavs, but being a Lakers fan you should know all about pushover eastern conference finalists, right?

in 07, the Nugs had won 10 of their last 11 heading into the playoffs, including a 23 point beatdown of the Spurs in San Antonio on the last day of the reg season.

The Spurs ended on a 3 game losing streak and then lost game 1 to the Nuggets.

There was much doom and gloom until the Spurs backdoor swept them.

Next round, the Suns were a higher seed and had the HCA.

The Jazz and Cavs apparently had no business being the next two rounds though.

Was it an easier path than some? Yeah. Was it the easiest path ever? No.

Usually the easiest paths are laid out for the teams with the best record in the NBA so I'm betting there are several other out there that had easier paths......namely the 99-00 Lakers.

Bullshit. Jazz were 4th seed and had a tough 1st round with Houston. They got lucky in the 2nd and drew the cinderella Warriors. By the time the WCF started the Spurs were rolling. The Jazz didn't stand a chance, but they weren't a bad team.

Didn't say they were a bad team. I said they had no business being in the WCF.

Thanks to the stupid NBA playoff bracket, the two best teams left in the NBA, #2 seed Suns and the #3 seed Spurs, had to play in the semis at the same time the #4 seed Jazz got to play the #8 seed Warriors.

The Pistons weren't that bad. They started 7-0 in the postseason that year and had a 2-0 series lead against the Cavaliers before choking away that series. The Cavs defended Chauncey very well. Webber wasn't as quick with his hands and there was very little chemistry to know where to pass the ball. They relied on Rasheed Wallace to carry the offense and got a stellar performance from Jason Maxiell in Game 2. They had a lack of size and a lack of ball-handling.
