Not trying to troll here, but if you really want to call a basketball player "great", he should be showing up in the greatest basketball game of his career.

Aside from Kobe Bryant, is there any other future HOF player who shot 6/24 from the field in Game 7 of the NBA Finals? Just asking:toast

There's a reason why there are no movies where Robin is the main man. Once a Robin, always a Robin, thus:

4>2

2 Regular Season MVPs> 1
3 Finals MVP> 1

You can have all the MVP's, scoring titles, NBA offensive and defensive teams, 6th man awards, most improved, all star appearances etc etc etc

All trinkets and forum/media fodder.

There is and always has been only one goal....

That's all fine and good, but we're talking about individual performances and accomplishments here. Rings are a team accomplishment.

And as far as the individual is concerned, Kobe has the same amount of mediocre Finals performances as he does rings, the Lakers winning in spite of him more often than because of him.

all good by me..... I don't simply look at shooting % either.

We have 5 titles during Kobe's reign and he's been a major contributor to all.

You see, if I was a fan for the team with the best record in the NBA and I was confident my team really was all that, I wouldn't feel the need to rehash the same ole same weak ass shit as one players shooting % in last years game when said players team won it all as if it diminishes anything.

Actually a player by the name of Michael Jordan vs the Sonics in game 4 (up 3-0 in an elimination game shot 6/19...lost the game. In game 5 he shot 50% in a loss. In game 6 a V for the Bulls he shot 5/19. Props to him having 9 boards and 7 assists though. Dominiating performance though.....

See, it's fun cherry picking games.

Percentage-wise 6/19 and 5-19> 6/24. Let's break it down, nigga:

6/24= 25 percent
6/19= 32 percent
5/19= 26 percent

Both of Jordan's worst games are still better than Kobe's best effort in the Finals:lol:lol

Hey bro, just posting stats, just like you. It's easy, anyone can do it.

While we're at it, Kobe's 6/24 is not at all an aberration. In fact, it's a fucking norm for him. Why? Let's break it down:

On June 16,2000

Kobe went 4/20:wow:wow to finish eight points against the Pacers in Game 5 of the 2000 Finals

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200006160IND.html

Good thing Shaq and the rest of the Lakers were there to save his sorry ass.

On June 16,2001

Kobe went 7 for 22 to finish a grand total of 15 points against the 76ers. Interestingly enough, Shaq erupted for 44 and 20 to save Robin's ass once again.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200106060LAL.html

On June 5,2008

Seven years later, Kobe wanted to prove to everyone that he can win without Shaq. Unfortunately, he was up against the Boston Celtics and in Game 1 of that year's NBA Finals, Kobe bricked his way to a 9/26 shooting clip to help his team loose.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200806050BOS.html

On June 17,2008

This date would probably go down as the most hated in Lakers history. One game away from their first championship in 22 years, the Celtics bukkaked the Lakers by 39 points.

Kobe finished with 22 points, 7/22 from the field.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200806170BOS.html

There you have it folks, a history of chucking from Black Mamba himself:toast:toast

Yep just bricked his way to back to back finals MVP's which you guys seem to cherrish so much. Oh let me guess. Kobe's not deserving of his and the only ones that really count are the ones he didnt win. How old are you? You must be in your teens.

Im sure Shaq, Timmy, and MJ were just sooooo giddy after game 7 waching Kobe ring again thinking... yeah what a bummer, he had a poor shooting % in game 7 after completing a spectacular playoff run so that one doesn't count. :lmao

But hey.... you keep thinking that 6-24 tarnishes the title if it makes you feel more comfy.

Son, I have been a Laker fan for almost 50 years and have seen way more basketball than you could even dream of. Four games does not make a long history. Two of which, in your examples, we won!!! Four years of games doesn't. No one Laker makes our history. We have had some of the greats of the game play for the team before Kobe and there will be plenty after as well. Kobe just happens to be the current one leading us to titles. That he doesn't do so at a shooting % deemed admirable by you idiots for a game or even a series over a 14 year (so far) career changes nothing. Kobe is a great in the game and will go down in history as such. That he's leading our team is a blessing and I am certainly enjoying the ride. So spout off all the stats you want and scream 6/24 till the cows come home because the glare from #16 shines on regardless! :toast

Sure he had a really bad game when it counted, you have Kobe on that but the team as a whole managed to win the NBA title and 2peat which many teams have trouble doing, much less 3peat which the Lakers will try to do this year. You can't judge a player on one game alone, it's what he did that led up to that point, if the Lakers didn't have Kobe there they would be a 1st or 2nd round exit team with the talent they have on that roster. While he had a bad shooting performance just his mere presence what he brings to the table helped the Lakers win that game. Say what you will, they won it and 2peated.

The difference with post players is that a lot of misses become putbacks by the same guy, but still considered a miss.

I don't think too much about those stats. Last second shots affect those stats, and the guy you rely on most usually is tasked with that, including the full court heaves.

The G.O.A.T. Michael himself had only 6 rings. Russell had almost twice that. Still, we consider Michael the greatest. Outside of Michael, it's a group of HOFers and then some really good players. HOFers are HOFers, stats be damned.

Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant are two of the best players we will ever personally see play the game, and we are fortunate (some of us) to have gotten to see MJ play in person.
