View Full Version : Shawn Marion: "If you take those threes out of the game I think we win"

"Tonight they hit some threes and we were trying to run them off the threes. That’s what kept them in the game If you take those threes out of the game I think we win."

LOLZ What a dummy! We only made 6 3-pointers and shot 37.5% from 3-point range. They actually shot better from there.

He's got a point . . .

Well, that's fine.

Convert those 3's into 2's.

Regardless,

6 x 2 = 12

Outcome: 89-95 Spurs win.

Not a reality based point.

Is he EXPECTING us to make like 2 3-pointers when we're 2nd in the league at 3-point shooting???

Shawn Marion is the last guy who should be talking on that team. The dude has a trash ass game if you ask me. Doesn't have a good shot, doesnt rebound too well, and only throws "flip shots" towards the rim and hopes they go in....weak. :td

Facts are facts. Without the 3s, the Spurs are short 18 points.

Also, really, take away the 2 to 3 playoff wins in each of the Spurs-Suns series Marion was a part of, and the Suns would have probably won.

Probably -- they probably would have still found a way to leave the bench and get disqualified, though . . .

What do the Spurs have to do with this?

He said if you take away the Spurs' 3s he felt they would have won the game. The fact that he only felt that they'd win the game by taking away 18 points from the Spurs, is another matter.

America ain't teachin' the maths . . .

Everyone expected this game to be a blowout :lol.. it was inevitable imo, the threes were coming at any point in any quarter, it was bound to happen..

from the get go, the Mavericks had no chance.

The fact is, the Spurs didn't win because of threes, they won because Dallas allowed them to run a layup/dunk line for the better part of the game. Because of that, they hit a few threes, but they had no problems at all scoring AT THE RIM.

It's the "that's what kept them in the game" part of Marion's assessment that's baffling to me. It wasn't like the depleted Mavs were threatening to bust the game open in their favor when the Spurs made some 3s and hung around. The 3s in the second quarter were all about extending an already sizeable lead. The Spurs didn't need to be "kept in the game;" their 3s kept the Mavs from hanging around.

As a Spurs fan, I've always appreciated players like Marion, Amare, Melo, JR Smith, and Kenyon Martin. There were times when it looked like the Spurs were in trouble and then one of these geniuses would save the day with a stupid foul, boneheaded turnover, technical foul, or ill-advised shot.

I've always pulled for Marion to hit a few early jump shots against the Spurs. It would get him confident enough to take shots when the game was on the line, and that was always a good thing for the Spurs. Best of all, he has three years left on his contract.

I am not following the logic here. If you take away the 3s, that means they never happened (unless you are removing the score from them after the end of the game, which wasn't the point).

You cannot just take the final score and say that would have been the score regardless, because the score at the end of the 3rd is what made Pop put in the subs. Without those 3s, that score is closer and the subs never enter the game.

There's always a consequence unless you just want to apply the magical trump card.

My bad, mucca. Let me break it down for ya:

Six multiplied by three, equals eighteen. If the Spurs don't make six three-pointers, for a total of eighteen points, they only wind up eighty-three points; the final score would then be Mavs 89, Spurs 83.

"If you take those threes out of the game, I think we win," is what Maid Marion said. And he's right, only there's no thinking about it.
