Should the Spurs sign Peja for the minimum. I don't think it would hurt at all especially since they gave Ime a chance.

If they could somehow transform him like they did Danny Ferry, sure -- but it looks like he wants more of a role than the Spurs would offer.

could be a good addition if he is willing to accept lesser role....dont want lakers or heat to pick him up though

He's going to the Mavericks.

They should be installing the turnstiles and lanes to the basket shortly thereafter.

God no. Hes a shell of his former self. Peja on defense would make Bonner on defense look like Bruce Bowen.

I'd like to keep him out of the Spurs locker room. Who knows what kind of STDs he'd expose the team to with all those porno stars he's been slamming.

He'd be another Matt Bonner for all intents and purposes. Mediocre defending 3 point shooting specialists shouldn't be our priority right now.

I hope he becomes the marque solution at SF for the Mavs. Afterall, signing Peja might mean they won't go after somebody good.

Mediocre? Your being awful generous. Peja, defensively, was medicocre in his prime.

Nah, with James Anderson almost back and playing SF we don't need another guy on the roster. Peja wouldn't make the rotation and he wouldn't like it.

If Spurs can't play defense they are going to rely on their shooters to win, however that works out.

Peja would be a great fit, Pop would not let him lose his confidence one bit and so he should be a bit more consistent than before.

Ignoring the various on the court issues, the last time the Spurs brought in an aging three point specialist with zero D and a hot wife things got a little complicated. And this time Tony's on the rebound.

He hasn't played since November and doesn't travel with team. Only played 22 minutes for Toronto since the trade.

...in spite of my continuing laughter at Dex's comment, I totally agree with jjktkk. Peja looked finished the last time I saw him play. He's even gone from being a terrible defender to a down right horrific one - if that's even possible.

No way would I take a chance on him. Let him go jack up threes for the Mavs.

Raptors buy out Peja Stojakovic

By Marc Stein
ESPN.com

The Toronto Raptors and Peja Stojakovic on Thursday completed a buyout that puts the former All-Star sharpshooter on the open market.

The team did not disclose the financial details of the buyout in announcing it had released Stojakovic, now in his 13th season.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that Stojakovic is determined to return to the Western Conference and join a playoff contender once he clears waivers and becomes a free agent, with three teams at the top of his list: Dallas, New Orleans and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Raptors publicly acknowledged almost immediately after acquiring Stojakovic from New Orleans that a buyout would be considered if no follow-up trade could be swung. But the Raptors, reluctant to take on long-term salary, were unlikely to find a workable trade, with Stojakovic earning $15 million in the final season of an original five-year deal he signed with the Hornets in the summer of 2006.

"We were clear from the beginning that our trade with New Orleans was made with the future in mind, so a buyout or trade of Peja's contract was a likely option," Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said in a prepared statement. "Although he did not fit into our plan of developing our young core talent, I'm sure that Peja will add significantly to any veteran team that signs him."

The Mavericks, sources say, are considered the favorite to land Stojakovic. They have minutes to offer at small forward and a well-chronicled need for perimeter shooting. And joining the Mavericks would enable Stojakovic to live within short flying distance of his wife and children, who remained in New Orleans after he was dealt to the Raptors.

Both the Mavericks and the Lakers have a need on the wing thanks to injuries, with Dallas losing Caron Butler to a season-ending knee tear and the Lakers losing newcomer Matt Barnes for two months to a knee injury.

Stojakovic made three All-Star appearances as a member of the Sacramento Kings and sports a career success rate of 40.1 percent from 3-point range. He's been plagued by knee trouble this season and has only appeared in two games for the Raptors, but he did leave an impression on the Mavericks by scoring 17 points in 19 minutes in Dallas on Nov. 15, just days before New Orleans sent the 33-year-old and Jerryd Bayless to Toronto for Jarrett Jack, Marcus Banks and David Andersen.

Stojakovic forfeited roughly $440,000 from a trade bonus in his contract to make the salary-cap math work in the deal that sent him to Toronto.

as for hornets... who knows why they'd want his ass back. Other than the cheapass price tag, of course.

Raptors release Peja Stojakovic

The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they have released forward Peja Stojakovic. Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed.

“We were clear from the beginning that our trade with New Orleans was made with the future in mind, so a buyout or trade of Peja’s contract was a likely option,” said Raptors President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo. “Although he did not fit into our plan of developing our young core talent, I’m sure that Peja will add significantly to any veteran team that signs him.”

Stojakovic was acquired with Jerryd Bayless from New Orleans on November 20. He appeared in two games with Toronto before being sidelined for the past 26 contests with a sore left knee.

The Raptors roster now stands at 14.

The Raptors continue their five-game road trip Friday at Orlando. Game time is 7 p.m. (TSN/Sportsnet Radio The FAN 590).

No THANKS

When Pop is your coach is always safer to stay away from veterans has-beens 3 pt shooters.
He may feel compeled to play them 20+ minutes over promising young players.

Peja for Ajinca is good for the Raptors.

It's hard to criticize Mavs for this likely signing. Spurs have also look for a SF since the start of the season. When you consider that they try Bobby Simmons, Danny Green, Ime Udoka and Larry Owens, it shows the lack of quality of the SF FA pool. Peja surely looks like the most interesting SF available.

With any luck they'll get caught out and lose a draft pick or two.
