I'm not sure if the Yankees strategy of signing "big names" works out with this signing. Jones isnt clearly what he used to be...

That is like getting former top shelf whiskey for tonic water money and may for once be a smart signing as it was not too much $$$ and who knows he may flourish there.

If he's strictly used against left handed pitching and he's okay with that role, it's a pretty good move on the Yankees' part imo. Last year, he had a .931 OPS against lefties, 8 HRs and 23 RBIs in only 86 ABs. That translates into about 50 HRs and 147 RBIs over a regular season of 550 ABs. The guy can still hit lefties. Both Granderson and Gardner are pretty weak against lefties (although Gardner was good at drawing walks against lefties) and the Yankees line-up is already left-handed heavy.
Jones against lefty starters and late game pinch hitter against lefties. Sounds like a pretty smart move considering their roster.

That's the plan. He takes the Marcus Thames role on the team and he should be able to play the corner outfield positions without causing fans to avert their eyes.

I just get annoyed when I see his first name. Similar to how I feel when I see "Dwyane"'s...

He still might be a great fielder. If anything, he can be there in the bottom of the 9th to play D.

He is nothing like the fielder he once was. For the Yanks, Swisher, Granderson and Gardner are far superior defensive players at this point of their careers than Jones

Guess he can't even do that. Haven't got to watch him play since 2008.
