yeah, great news for dallas tbh. peja would give them a 2nd scoring option with length, strength and reliable 3-pt. they'll soon complete a champion squad imo. just make some good use of Butler's expiring (trade him for iggy for example) and they will be contending with the top tiers

This is more scandalous than the Gasol "trade".

Books in Vegas just upgraded Mav championship chances from 85-1 to 850-1.

Legacies of Jeff Bower you're trying to get rid of huh? Too bad you don't have Cedric Simmons anymore.

Definitely was smart to trade those absolute NBA busts of JR Smith and Brandon Bass too.

still a good pickup for some depth and filling a need that this team lacks - consistent 3pt shooting. when roddy finally returns, this should be the rotation...

PG - Kidd, Barea
SG - Roddy, Terry
SF - Stevenson, Peja
PF - Dirk, Marion
C - Chandler, Haywood

Pretty solid as long as the team can be healthy, and if Roddy come playoff time can play around the pace he did last year, just with more minutes. Definitely will miss Caron's size, attitude and defense that he brings, but I think Roddy, Stevenson, and Peja all bring more to the table for this teams needs on offense than Butler did (not saying that Stevenson or Peja are better offensive players, but their style of play on offense fits the team more than Butler's did). In the end, I've been saying for years that the offense is the #1 issue with the team, leading to poor defensive posessions. If they can get the offense to have some more consistency, they will be much better.

If a scoring wing is brought in and Peja plays 10-15 a night, I'm fine with that. People act like mavs are paying him $15 mil a year

Exactly. He's not going to be getting paid much, and i doubt he gets more than 20 minutes a game, more like 10-15 like you said.

Pros

Jackson - considerably more skilled scorer, balls of steel, tough mentality, underrated passer

Prince - consistent, focuses more on slashing and easy buckets, fantastic defender, younger

Cons

Jackson - streaky, takes bad shots, effort sometimes may be questionable although it may be different on a true contender, old

Prince - might not provide the scoring punch needed by the Mavs

I'm sure they would have neither, because nobody in the league goes by "Steven Jackson" or "Tayshawn Prince."

Not a mavs fan obviously but i'd pick jackson for dallas. they need a nigga in that team. someone who doesn't back down when the going gets tough.

Phillip
01-21-2011, 11:57 AM
I'd say Jackson is a higher risk but higher reward guy. Prince though will almost certainly be able to give what Butler was giving, perhaps will be more of an attacker than Butler was though, but still isn't neccesarily that #2 scoring threat.

Jackson has the potential to take care of the scoring needs without needing Roddy back, but Prince may still need Roddy to come in and help more with scoring.

Personally, I think I may actually rather have Prince, and give Roddy more shots, because I think it's important to go ahead and groom him up, not just for now but for the future. Either way, one of those guys would be nice to have. I just wonder what the Mavs would have to give up for either guy.

Great the Mavs have a player softer than Bonner who shoots worse these days!! It is all good!

Phillip
01-21-2011, 12:00 PM
One thing to consider though, is that pretty much anyone who plays with Dirk and Kidd, their offensive efficiency is likely to improve quite a bit, which bodes in Jackson's favor.

I think Beaubois will take a load of scoring off of Dirk, therefore Jackson brings some swagger and toughness that we need and is also not afraid to take the big shot. Perfect fit, imho even if he's lost a little step

now lets throw in two more names to the mix... Iguodala and Deng.

Who would you want the most out of those four? Who would fit the best?

Deng
Jackson

Jackson on the Mavs would be a scary thought. Long term he's a problem child, but as a rental with a honeymoon period he was a proven contributor with the Warriors and the Bobcats.

1 Iggy

I think the first 2 we might be able to get without Beaubois. Philly is just looking to shed Brand's contract and if there's one guy who doesn't give a shit it's Cuban, so we probably wouldn't have to give up that much.

As far as Jackson goes, there's always the Michael Jordan as a Retarded GM factor. He might be dumb enough to take a guy like Butler and a pick and give away Jackson. Or as mono said, throw in Brendan Haywood and hopefully MJ sees "North Carolina" on his resume and gets a hard on

Did I explain why I was happy tough tits?

I know he's not going to "fuck up" the Mavs, no shit, the Mavs are good as it is and adding any player will not destroy the team, obviously, with few exceptions. I'm happy because they're planning on signing a relatively expensive player compared to what he brings...which is nothing more than what Matt Bonner brings at this stage in his career, AKA nothing, at a price of several million more. That means they're not spending money on another player that could be way more useful for the price.
