As long as there's not a ligament or meniscal tear, it's probably okay. In the best case, it's just a little sore for a day or two. Worse would be a ligament strain which could put somebody out for several weeks.

Thank goodness Splitter has most of the hard stuff down. He moves well. He's got pretty solid lateral movement.

His free throw is terrible. His touch around the rim is terrible. Obviously he has no jump shot. These are among the easiest things to "practice up," though. It's hard to teach floor position.

He has solid footwork, he knows when to make cuts, he's a good passer, he knows how to play positional defense..

First off, getting away from being an "inefficient chucker" is new territory for Ellis. He's been the poster boy for high volume chuckers for quite a while now.

Overall he's having a phenomenal year this year. He's efficient.

Yeah when David Lee is 10-13 and Ellis is < 50%, he's hogging the ball, and this isn't the first time he hasn't looked more for his teammates when they were having good shooting nights.

Next, you sort of contrived this notion that "ball hogging" and "chucking" are synonymous when they are not. You responded to my "ball hogging" comment by saying he's not an inefficient chucker. That's completely beside the point. I called him a ball hog to start, not an inefficient chucker.

It's ok to be wrong. Move on to the next post.

I thought the defense was awful, but it was a good win. Shooting practices against teams that don't play D are great confidence builders. RJ found his shot, Manu hit some 3's, Hill found his way to the rack, Splitter got some burn... hope they can build on this.

Hyperextended left knee.

Hyperextended and hyperflexed are the exact opposite. Hyperflexed is when the knee is bent all the way back, but that's not really what they are saying here.

And for the smartasses who said that talking about an MCL injury was stupid - don't be too sure just yet. If they are calling it a hyperflexed knee, there's still a chance of a PCL strain or tear. Tim's quads are strong enough that he could be back out on the floor the way he was, with a PCL injury. I was watching him, and when he was just standing he was up on his left toe a lot, instead of standing flat footed. Either way, I guarantee you the doc was looking for ligament damage in the locker room.

There are some physical tests that they do to check for ligament damage. They bend your knee into different positions and then apply pressure to parts of your leg to see how much it moves, or how much it hurts. It's harder to detect PCL problems that way. I guarantee you he'll be getting an MRI in the morning. I'm surprised they let him back on the court without one. But I still won't be surprised if they diagnose a strain and make him take a couple of days off. Especially if he's still up on that left tiptoe.

San Antonio Spurs 113, Golden State Warriors 102: Duncan goes down, comes back, ditto for fans’ confidence (http://www.48minutesofhell.com/)
by Andrew A. McNeill
48 Minutes of Hell

The San Antonio Spurs have been blessed with mostly good health this season, especially to the team’s irreplaceable pieces. We haven’t seen Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker in this condition since the Spurs last won an NBA title in the 2007 season.

With the exception of some injuries to guys like James Anderson, George Hill and Matt Bonner, the Spurs have been lucky when it comes to health. For a stretch of time during the Spurs’ 113-102 win over the Golden State Warriors, it seemed like that might all come crashing down.

The replay of Tim's injury reminded me of several ligament injuries I've seen first hand on the court. My own, for instance.

Yeah. I know some people here can't believe that anyone but the team doctor knows anything about sports injuries, but that had ligament damage written all over it. It looks like there wasn't any, but that's just an amazing piece of luck.

I've already said that in the second half it looked like he was up on his left tiptoe a lot, when he was at rest. I'm looking at the replay of the first half right now, and he's flat-footed. The knee may be solid enough to play the second half, but it looks like it's weak. I really hope they rest him a couple of games.

It's actually a great excuse for Pop to sit him till the ASG. So we lose a few road games w/o him, not like we don't have a 6 game lead on the Lakers and who cares if they have the satisfaction of winning on their home floor with us Timmy-less. I think deep inside, Pop doesn't like having such a ridiculous record anyways.

Even if he doesnt sit out a few games, he'll get some rest anyway since the Spurs play @Utah Wednesday and then have Thursday and Friday off until they play the Rockets at home Saturday, and then have another two days off until they play Portland...

Spurs survive Duncan scare to beat Warriors (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/01/25/spurs-survive-duncan-scare-to-beat-warriors/)
Jeff McDonald

...“For a moment,” Manu Ginobili said, “we thought it was really bad.”

..."I just fell wrong,” said Duncan, who ended with 16 points and seven rebounds. “It feels fine. All I know is I went down kind of awkward.”

..."I was scared for him,” said Antonio McDyess, who has a history of severe knee injuries. “I saw him rolling around on the ground and I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ ”

...“He worked out on it and said he felt good,” said Popovich, who clinched a spot coaching the Western Conference squad in the Feb. 20 All-Star game with the victory. “He’s his own best judge.”

I hadn't looked that far ahead, but I knew we had Utah on Wednesday and they're always physical. They could give him four full days off if they sit him Wednesday night. I hope they do at least that much.

I wasn't worried about Hill's hand injury, even though they talked like it was really bad the night it happened. Tim's injury is the exact opposite.

Some post-game quotes.

After Duncan scare, Spurs top Warriors 113-102 (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2011012409)
By Antonio Gonzalez

Tim Duncan was spread out on the floor, cringing, clutching his left knee. All the San Antonio Spurs came off the bench and surrounded him, fearing the worst.

“Bad, bad memories,” point guard Tony Parker thought to himself. “I thought something was seriously wrong with his knee.”

Turns out, all is still well with the Spurs.

Duncan returned unhampered in the second half to finish with 16 points and seven rebounds, and San Antonio overcame the brief injury scare to beat the Golden State Warriors 113-102 on Monday night.

Manu Ginobili had 20 points and seven assists, Parker added 18 points and 11 assists and the NBA-best Spurs (38-7) cruised to an otherwise stress-free victory that clinched the Western Conference’s best record through games of Feb. 6. That means Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will coach the West squad in the All-Star game Feb. 20 at Los Angeles.

Of greater importance to the Spurs was that they left town with their team intact.

“Just fell wrong, got my knee caught underneath me,” said Duncan, who had his knee wrapped in the locker room. “Played the second half, so it feels OK.”

David Lee had a season-high 31 points to go with 12 rebounds, and Monta Ellis scored 25 for a Warriors team hoping to get into the playoff picture during a huge homestand. Instead, the franchise that knows all about postseason play dominated as it has all season.

“They’re a very frustrating team to play,” Lee said. “I don’t go out there feeling like they’re a better team than us. When you play the Lakers you look at their size and say it’s going to be a tough game. I feel like we match up well with the Spurs. I feel like they’re a beatable team, especially in this building. And just the way they execute and the way they take advantage of any little mistake you make, it’s like a boring way to play but it’s so effective.

“There’s a reason why their record is what it is.”

The Spurs have played with the same starting five in every game this season, but it looked for a moment that their streak was in jeopardy. Duncan was setting a pick on Acie Law in the second quarter when he turned to roll to the basket and his left knee appeared to buckle slightly.

Duncan fell to the floor, cringing for about a minute while he held his knee. The entire Spurs bench, including Popovich, came onto the floor to check on the 12-time All-Star. Duncan had to be helped up but eventually walked to the locker room under his own power.

“I think he’s going to be all right,” Popovich said. “He just kind of hyperextended it, but he said it felt good, worked it out and said it was good. He’s his own best judge.”

Sure seemed that way.

Duncan, diagnosed with a hyperflexed left knee, returned to start the third quarter and San Antonio found its spark. Duncan, Ginobili and Parker—the core of all those championship teams—helped the Spurs build an 83-70 lead.

Duncan played his usual minutes and showed no signs of being hobbled.

The Spurs, who had won eight in a row until losing to the Hornets in their previous game, hope this is the start of another big streak. San Antonio also has had winning streaks of 12 and 10 games this season.

“Their record is because of what they have,” Warriors coach Keith Smart said. “Tim goes out for a brief moment and they don’t miss a beat because they know how to move to the next play right away. We have to be playing at a great high level for us to have a shot here.”

Notes: Spurs F Matt Bonner missed his fifth consecutive game with a bone bruise on his right knee. Popovich said there is no structural damage but the team is somewhat concerned that it hasn’t improved. “It’s not getting better a lick,” Popovich said. … The Warriors began an eight-game homestand, the longest since they played eight in a row in the 1964-65 season. Seven of those games were played in San Francisco, and the other in San Jose.

So he's saying that he was bored while the Spurs were dropping 113 points on his dumb ass? Maybe if the Warriors didn't make so many freaking mistakes, there wouldn't be as much for the Spurs to capitalize on.
