That guy was the man. Played basketball solely to play defense, one of the best perimeter defenders of all time.

Did he leave the Spurs on good terms? Seems like he'd be a good addition to the coaching staff, working with the young guys on the Bowen method.

Pop was sporting that raggedy-ass beard in Bruce's last season, and Bruce offered Pop a free bikini wax at his wife's spa. Other than that, I think the terms were pretty good.

He will never get the respect he is due and is hated by most outside SA with the "dirty player" thing which is lame.

He single handedly [literally] won playoff games for us. I miss him.

"Offense win games, defense wins championships."

Not as comforting a statement as it used to be.

Reports of the defense's demise have been greatly exaggerated - currently sitting at 7th in the NBA (ahead of teams like Dallas & LA).

It's gotten better, but we still don't have a stopper we can throw at the other team's star player. One of the beauties of Bruce's play was that you could put him on basically anyone and you knew whoever it was would suffer before the night was over.

Laugh all you want, but Dirk was the player who gave Bowen (and the Spurs) the most trouble throughout his career. Just a matchup nightmare.

They broke the mold when they made Bowen. A true scholar of perimeter defensive tactics. Too bad he never won the Defensive Player of the Year award. I guess tactics like denying the opponent the basketball, harrassing the opposition's best defender on a game-by-game basis, and adversely affecting the opponent's shooting percentage isn't as tangible or sexy as blocked shots or steals. He could've and should've won that award at least two years.

that's the problem, what he did was unquantifiable.

He deserves to get his jersey retired.

The sooner the better. SA always had a big 4 in the 2000's, not a big 3.

Same here. In fact, I already own a home white Bowen jersey and am about to purchase a road black. Though, I'm a bit afraid of getting "a rash".:lol
