View Full Version : Spurstalk's biggest homers?
Punchy

Here's my all Spurstalk homer team (I'm only including the most visible and populated fanbases. While T-long is indeed a great homer of all things Pacific Northwest, he doesn't have much competition since Blazer fans are few, as are Celts, Jazz, and most recently, Suns fan):
Lakers: 21Blessings, history2b, cobbler, Lkrfan, and namlook. (You might be thinking where's the homosexual trinity of Luva, Kool, and Cub? First of all, we all know Luva and Kool are trolls, who likely don't believe half the shit they say, and Culburn is a straight pessimist. These posters don't really define the term "homer" as I see it.)
Mavs: Amarelooms, Ghazi, grey named Mavfan except Zelophehad. .
Rockets: All of them.
Hornets: Fevertrees. (BR will insult, slander, and criticize the Hornets to no end when they are doing bad. I've never seen the whale known as Fevertrees utter a harsh word against his beloved Bees.)
Spurs: Since this is a Spurs site, we're going to hugely outnumber all fanbases, so culling down the hundreds of idiotic homers to just a few is no easy task. Frankly, I don't know where to start. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Agree with all of the Lakers picks, all good choices..
I don't think any of the Mavs fans here are homers..
I don't remember all of the Rockets fans, because none of them post on a regular basis, but the guy that defends Yao all the time is a homer..is it Double Up?..not sure, could be a different guy..
Tlong is a homer, but he's a lovable homer..he wouldn't be himself if he didn't have that shtick..same with Ghazi..
My man MiamiHeat is a homer, but he's a realistic and reasonable homer..
As for the Spurs, Rummpd is probably the biggest homer right now..ohmwrecker and DesignatedT used to be up on the list, I'm not sure if they're still up there, haven't paid attention..this isn't an insult btw, nothing wrong with being a homer..

Roddy is pretty damn good but nowhere near value of Neal+Hill and nowhere near the value that mavfan puts on his ass.

cheguevara
02-03-2011, 11:23 AM
Bobby Jackson averaged 15 ppg at the height of his career. He was more around a 9-10 ppg scorer.
Roddy can hit 16-20 ppg consistently if he gets the minutes and is the 2nd option. He wont be a number 1 option because hes too small, but he can be an excellent 2nd option.
Bobby Jackson at the height of his career averaged 23mpg. He could have easily averaged 20ppg if given 30mpg.
The comparison is good IMO. Both are similar scorer type players, that create their own show and bring energy. Roddy would be a great 6th man or great 3rd option on a good team. Anything else would be asking too much.

He has been a disappointment so far. Some Spurs fans desperate for a legit bigman to pair with Duncan, overhyped Splitter, but I wanna see what a full season working with coaches, and working with the Spurs Strength coach will do for Splitter's development next season, before I pass judgement on him. But imo, you would have to be a Phillip if you wanted to trade Oden for Splitter, giving Oden's Bynumish knee problems.

i never said i would do the trade
i havent seen splitter play to see how well his game actually translates to the NBA, how skilled he actually is, etc...
but we know for a fact, that in the small spurs when Oden was healthy, he was a very solid NBA player.
so id say that doing a trade like that is a high-risk, high-reward trade, while keeping splitter is low-risk, unknown-reward. just depends on the mentality of the person who would consider such a trade. personally, if splitter hasnt been able to get any minutes over freaking Bonner and McDyess, then he obviously isn't all that great. Pop doesnt strike me as a guy who despises playing rookies just for the sake of it, like Larry Brown, Avery Johnson, and Rick Carlisle. I think if he truly was a good player, he would be getting more minutes with the Spurs. But we dont know for sure.

Good points. No one knows what kind of player Splitter is, including Pop because of Splitter missing Summer League, training camp, etc..., due to injuries. From the little bit of playing time Splitter has received so far, Splitter moves pretty well for a big man, and shows decent awareness/bbiq on the court. But Splitter seriously needs to get stronger and his post game, while pretty good as far as his footwork goes, needs quite a bit of work. The only reason I wouldn't trade for Oden is Oden's medical history, not because Oden isn't a talented player.

Sure, and I understand people's POV on that. I can respect that. I am also one of Tiago's biggest supporters.
But losing a guy like Tiago doesn't kill your team long term or short term. His upside is not high enough to have you really kicking yourself imo. He can be a damn good role player, and that is valuable.
But Oden, if healthy, changes the game in a big way. It's worth the risk to me. The only problem is what he will be owed money wise. Portland has to tender him one hell of an offer pretty much sight unseen.

[[[Sure, and I understand people's POV on that.
Portland has to tender him one hell of an offer pretty much sight unseen.]]]
Yep. You didn't fuck up with Tiago. You fucked up with Scola. Consider yourselves lucky though. You pull a boner like that as a Laker and you never hear the end of it.
I had to put my answer in the quotes because Deep has me on his Ignore List.
That chickenshit.
lol alright I'm done with this stupid ass analogy and it's like the 3rd time I've bashed religion today. But you get the point my dude.
I wouldn't even recognize your posts if there isn't an attack on religion in there somewhere, tbh.
It's your MO.

im pretty sure if the blazers offered Oden for Tiago right now, the spurs FO would do it in a heartbeat.
i'm a huge Splitter homer but id give him up in a sec to get Oden.

No. Pop would cut off his nose to spite his face before he'd do that, Mugs.

Why would you want a player on your team who doesn't play?

With Oden, you're probably paying a lot more for slightly less, if he isn't playing.
Big gamble. You put a lot of money in the pot, there's high chances for it to go to waste in this case.

I argue with verve . . . it's occasionally misinterpreted. I troll a bit, too.
Yeah, but some of these fuckers are using downriggers and planar boards.
