I have a long lasting hate of the red rocket but that's a damn shame. He deserves to be in the 3 point contest, and has been deserving of it the past couple of years.

Why is Kevin Durant invited with a 34.7%?

Kevin Durant? Boobie Gibson?

it amazes me that the team with the best record... top 3 in 3-point FG%, and nobody to represent the Spurs?

this is BS.

Why is Kevin Durant invited with a 34.7%?

They always have 3 players who made the all-star game and 3 that didn't

you all saying "who cares" don't realize what a mental boost this would be to Bonner.

if you were in his shoes, you'd care.

of course you will tell the media "nah, it doesn't bother me at all"... but everybody, and i mean everybody, likes recognition now and then.

Bonner would not have done well. You need to be quick grabbing the balls out of the rack and have a quick release.

So they should have invited Richard.

and have a quick release.

And Hill.

The Spurs should've had at least one player in there. Manu could've easily been chosen as well with the most made 3's.

With Novak on board I would like to see a three point contest with nothing but Spurs.

They just said like a week ago that even though Pierce wanted to they couldn't have two players from the same team I'm kinda more surprised Manu didn't make it

lol yet i'd be "whining" if i said a spurs player was snubbed.. just pointing out the obvious as usual.. no bonner, no manu, no neal just helps my case..

i could just imagine our average counterpart fans during the playoffs.. 'what?? they can shoot 3's this well? how come none of them were in the 3pt shot contest???'

I don't think Bonner would do well in a 3PT contest. He is a great 3PT shooter, but not for this type of competition imo.

As a fan, I am happy with this list of participants. Should be really good.

Other than those who are already considered great players, who has ever become "famous" because of the 3pt shooting contest? Even if Bonner won, so what?

It was a great mental boost to RMJ eh?

Bonner stinks it up, it could be the end of Matty as we know it. He might never drive the ball again.

In pre-game shooting Bonner is awesome to watch. I've seem him make 20-25 in a row before. IMO the Spurs should have at least one guy in there considering their record and they lead the league in 3 pt shooting with 5 players shooting at or close to 40%.

Bonner was disappointed to learn he had not been asked to compete in this year’s 3-point contest at All-Star Weekend, despite owning the league’s second-best 3-point percentage (50.4).

Undeterred, and ever inventive, Bonner has a solution for his snub.

“I’m going to hold my own 3-point contest for me, and Novak and other guys who didn’t get in,” he joked.

Of course 2 celtics make it.

I am surprised Rondo does not make it :rolleyes

More seriously, Pierce won it last year and Allen had to be in. So I have no problem with that.

One Spurs should have make the contest. But you also have to consider Bonner made "only" 61 3pts this season (they could have picked Jefferson though).

Craig Hodges. He was so famous for the three point shootout that they let him in one year when he wasn't actually on an NBA roster.

3Pt Contest selection is based on a silly and wholly subjective criteria. Henry Abbot of Truehoop, ESPN has a sound critique -

It is called "All Star Weekend" for a reason.
Who wants to see a shooting contest with Bonner, Afflalo, Ridnour, Gibson, Stevenson, Korver? So obviously there is some politics/marketing.

Edit:
To be fair with the NBA, it is not easy to pick players in a consistent way.
You can't really compare 3P% for a low volume corner 3 shooter (best spot, wide open ) and a Kevin Durant (I don't believe he sees a lot of wide open shots).

Agreed with the logic that one can't compare a low volume, mostly unguarded shooter and a high volume, highly guarded shooter to determine who is better. But there has to be a standard to set which highly guarded high volume shooter should be given a preference over the former.

I think Aaron Afflalo deserves a chance over James Jones. And Kevin Durant certainly did not deserve a chance over many, and one could make a case for Manu Ginobili over Kevin Durant based on the NBA's criteria.

My point is that if the NBA thinks that it has a specific criteria to choose 3 point specialists then it has to be consistent. This year's selection however belies any consistency. It seems like whoever decided this year, just picked up based on a half-objective assessment and a half-bias.
